How do I save my edits in Aperture?

I am using Aperture 3.5.1 and have been unable to successfully save an edited image. I found another discussion on this site that seemed to indicate that edits are automatically saved, however this does not appear to be the case:

"In Aperture the edited version will replace the previously edited version, unless you set the option "Create new versions when making adjustments" in the Aperture Preferences Advanced panel."

I do not have "Create new versions when making adjustments" checked or set in Aperture, yet the edits do not appear to save. I've even tried exporting a version, finding the exported file, but this also does not seem to work.

This is my first venture with an Apple computer - primarily because of how "intuitive" everything is supposed to be, yet I find it to be highly difficult to do very simple tasks like save an edited image.

What am I missing here?

How are you editing? Directly in Aperture or in an external editor like Photoshop?

If you are editing in Aperture, there is no saving of edited image versions. When you edit an image in Aperture, the following should happen:

You add adjustments and annotations to an image, and Aperture will show you the edited version in the Viewerand the thumbnail in the Browser should update.
But Aperture will not actually crewe and save the edited image as a new image file. It just stores the steps to create the edited versions from the originals. This saves space, since not two copies, original and eddied image need to be saved.
There is no "Save" in Aperture. Edited images live in limbo, until they are exported.

How did you try to export the edited image? That should have worked. You should see a copy of the edited version, when you use "File > Export > Version (not Original).
