Problems with Latest Facebook icw IOS 7.1.2

Hi,

Got Facebook App version 14.1.0.25.26 (Latest according to my knowledge) installed on iOS7.1.2 (also the latest).

Now: I've been using the Facebook app for a long time now on my IPad 2, but had an older version installed of the Facebook App, and on iOS 7.0.6..

Yesterday I decided to do a restore of my IPad (clean everything) and start fresh. By doing this restore i needed to update to iOS 7.1.2..

After this fresh install, and after installing the Facebook App (by then the latest versionand not my old version), facebook app does not load anything most of the time. When stopping and starting my WiFi on the iPAD it's loads something, and after that everything stops again.

Searched forums/internet, did a lot of resetting the ipad's settings regarding network / reset all content and settings / location and privacy / removing Facebook - Resetting - Reinstalling the App etc. etc. etc.. Never had any problems before the upgrade.

Regarding Wireless : Everything works !!. If i reboot my IPad, start everything except for the facebook app, everything works : The App Store, My Mail, Safari ....EVERYTHING is working without problems. BUT when i start Facebook....everything regarding the internet stops. Also the previous mentioned apps do not load anything anymore. Also loading the facebook site in Safari results in the same problems.

Suggestions, or an upgrade for the facebook app are welcome. (Alternative applications like Friendly or MyPad are not a solution, because they do not load anything also, and/or result in the same as mentioned (nothing in other apps load anymore).

Just to be sure : As long as i do not connect to facebook, using whatever app, everything is OK.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Johnathan,

Thanks for your reply. I am however not convinced this is just a Facebook App problem.

First of all, as mentioned in my post, also browsing to the facebook page in Safari gives the same problems. After my post i did some additional testing on other sites, and also (as an example of a couple of sites) on the Microsoft site Safari keeps showing the rotating loading icon. Leading me to believe there is something else is wrong.

Because not only the App but also Safari is giving problems, I installed the Chrome browser. And this browser gives me some more info on the possible cause.

Sometimes it gives me dns resolving errors, and sometimes the site takes to long to respond.

I'm now investigating IPv6 / DNS Lookup problems i.c.w. WiFi settings on my IPad 2. Looking at some info I looked up, there can be a problem with the fact that my IPad receives an IPv4 address, but my modem gives him an IPv6 address (or something like that).

I'm no network specialist, so need to do some reading on this.

I hope this solution will make someone think about a solution for the connection problems on IPad :

During my tests, when loading problems occurred, when i switched WiFi on and off, it loaded content again for a short moment.

So browsing the internet, a stumbled upon some text maybe indicating an IPv6 vs IPv4 issue. I disabled IPv6 on my modem. Did the necessary resets for network settings on the IPad and reconnected. No results. The problem with loading content (not only Facebook, but also some other sites using Safari) remained.

I then noticed my modem has 2 settings enabled, being the 2.4-GHz frequency band and 5-GHz frequency band for WLAN. Both my IPad's connected to the 5 GHz band automatically. So I disabled the 5-GHz frequency band, because all my other devices (Laptop etc.) connected to the 2.4 band, and have no loading issues. PROBLEM SOLVED. Everything loads like a charm. Also Safari / Facebook App, everything.

Now : On iOS 7.0.6. I never had any problems connecting / loading content. I can not reproduce or go back to iOS 7.0.6 to actually confirm that that version is working perfectly on the 5GHz band.

Food for thought.....

But i solved my problem. Hope my post will help others.

Best regards,

Chris
