I'm burning a cd from a playlist of MP3 files. I've set the order in the play list but the burned disc comes out with a random order.
what am doing wrong.

Hard to answer without seeing an exact step-by-step breakdown from you. Generally the files have to be renamed so they appear on the CD in alphabetic or numeric order. iTunes can do this:

Are you burning an audio CD or MP3 CD?
How are you viewing the files on the burned CD? If you are viewing themn in iTunes, you can sort them in any order you want.
An audio CD will have the track # in front of the track name.
When I burn from a playlist why isn't the order of the playlist being replicated on the cd
