As the title, I'm wondering if I update my iphone 5 ( currently running the IOS 7 - 7.1.2 ) TO the IOS 8 tomorrow, would it slow my iphone 5 down?
The reason for that is because when I update my iphone 4s from IOS 6 to IOS 7, it really slow my iphone 4s down and I couldn't install the IOS 6 again or downgrade it back to the IOS 6. Therefore, I must sell my Iphone 4s for nearly a gift price. ( Sad ).

Yes, anytime you load a new iOS version, it needs more power and two generations back always runs slow.
Do not update !!! Wait until all issues are sorted out, or you may regret it like me now.
I have iOS 8 installed on two (2) iPhone 5. At first things seem to run a little slow but then everything got up to speed. I really can not tell any difference between iOS 8 and iOS 7.1.2. Just had to also update a lot of the apps.

Apple is still signing 7.1.2 ATM downgrade now if you want.... You will have to put your phone in DFU mode (YouTube) and re download the 7.1.2 Ipsw and point iTunes to the downloaded ipsw
Yes as of right now iOS 8 slows down my 5s it's a horrible update! Complete garbage! Wait until at least the next update (8.0.1) or even later

Two iPhone 5 units, running iOS 8 without any issues. Also, an iPhone 4S that is a tad slower, but still runs fine.
I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 without any problems.
I upgraded my iPad 2 and it is running slow, but it was running slow also with iOS 7. It was running fine when it had iOS 6.
This is a machine from 2011 so it was no surprise, not nice anyway.
I will update my iPhone 5, and I expect it to be fine. The 5 is much newer and should handle the update better.
Remember that the first hours after an update the devices always run slow. You can confirm the extra CPU activity using any app that can report CPU use.
I recommend updating via iTunes and not OTA. I have encountered problems running OTA updates before on an old iPhone 4.
The only feature I like is the swift key other the den that it's a complete garbage. I would like to downgrade to ios 7 because my phone goes slow is iPhone 5 and I thought at least it won't sick like on iPhone 4s but seriously apple has to think on it if they want ios8 on older device

To many people freaking out. Quick easy fix until they get this sorted out and you can keep your stuff if go to location services and turn them off. Privacy > location services. This worked for all my devices my full speed is back and good to go. Good luck. FYI just an apple user that knows his away around the product a little no expect but also no need to freak out instantly. Help solve the problem not add to . Happy weB surfing hang ten.
Definitely slower already. A lot of lag when typing. Visably slower when swiping between home screen. Internet loading slower to. All round poorer experience using iPhone 5
further I have a 64 gb iphone 5 and it's only half full.
Too many people freaking out because we are facing issues and no one will speak then it will be seemed as not a major bugs ir issues. Yes we need to think for the workaround and thanks for your tip u shared but atleast apple should know that lot of people are facing such issues.
ONe more thing whenever first time i am opening the cellular data it's crashing the settings app.
