Hi everyone, so I was wondering, I am intending to install Kerkythea for some 3D rendering however when I begin the installation it requires X11 to be installed. When I click ok apple takes me to the download or Xquartz page. I am a little apprehensive as it says during installation that I have to log out and log back in again.

The main questions I ask are:

does it affect my mac performance or speed in any way?

does it replace an existing software that my mac prefers?

does it run continuously or only when the program requiring it is running?

From what I remember (been a time since I used it) X11 has to be quit manually afterwards. But you'll soon find out: Dock shows its icon.

Ok, so I can quit it like any other application? and it definitely doesn't slow my mac? why do i need it to run certain programs? is it some sort of engine that gives you the ability to work microsoft and linux programs on a mac?

You can quit it like any other application. It doesn't slow down your Mac. And it's simply a convenient interface for Unix stuff (has nothing to do with Windows).

(BTW: stop making the same topic over and over again. Those duplicates will get deleted.)
