iOS 8 Update Failed

I have the same problem with my iPad mini during iOS8 update.

I will try this and let you know.

We are in the same rowboat, I am afraid. None of the apps has worked for me, and my iPad 2 remains in a permanent state of Recovery Mode.

audreyhg, have you tried putting your iPad in DFU mode and then perform the restore. I was stuck in the same loop too, however, I just had to wait it out as it was a connection issue with the Apple servers.

Sometimes, just trying to update from a different system (and a different internet connection, helps!)

✅Did you make a backup before updating.

kai_xxv, try putting your iDevice into the DFU mode, you can do that watching two minute how to videos from YouTube.

Once your iDevice is in the DFU mode, you can then try the restore to see if that works for you. Regarding the effectiveness of these apps - snake oil.

Like most of us, sometimes just switching PC (with a different internet connection preferably helps), or trying at a different time helps. Sometimes, its just that the server is unreachable. Especially at times like this, when a major update has been rolled out. Server issues are common, during the first few days.

pretty much the same here. With my iPhone 5 I downloaded the update to my iPhone, attempted the install after successfully downloading, the phone said it was verifying the update, then went through the reboot process and took me to the recovery mode. Using RecBot exits recovery mode, but then it goes right back into recovery mode. ***

Yes I have this problem as well, but that was yesterday when I finally got the iPad to work after iOS8 update (kept rebooting). Now, after a day of having a working iPad 3, sometime during the night my iPad went back into this reboot loop problem that I had the first night trying to update to iOS8.

I'm stuck cause I use my iPad for everything and if I use my last back up it will cost me a weeks worth of work, check book balance, notes I have taken in meetings and responses to customers. Oh and one more thing, after finally realizing I would have to restore from my last backup when I connect to iTunes it recognizes my device but when I try to do the restore from backup it says "cannot restore from backup when Find My iPhone is turned on, Please turn off Find My iPhone before restoring". Hello! I can't get into my iPad to turn that off cause it's in this reboot loop! Ggrrrrr!

Right now I'm patiently waiting to find if someone knows how to fix it.

Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"

It was late and I was frustrated....

Windows 7 64bit, iPhone 5S 16Gb, made back up, installing process freezed in a half way. Now it's asking for iTunes connection. I'm restoring device as recommended, an then error 21 appears. Tried several times 😟

can you help me out with this ive tried this and it didn't work and now I cant use my phone at all so if you can tell me an idea of how I could do this without having to restore or doing this method

Installing X Code 6 avoided iTunes from crashing and I could restore my iPad!!

I visited my Apple store where a Genius on break named Martine earned a week's worth of good karma for saving me from the line of 900 waiting for new phones. She advised me to run the Recovery (putting machine to factory mode) then restore from iCloud backup. I am 40 minutes into the process, but it looks as it should at this point. I hope it all holds afterward. All of which underscores the importance of backing up the device - in my case an iPad2 - before the download.

Nonetheless, I hold out little hope my much-loved and trusted device is going to be long for this world.

andystana: Thank you for posting about recboot. My iPad mini with Retina went into recovery mode during the iOS 8 update and I could not restore it with iTunes or anything else. This utility took it out of recovery mode. Not sure what is going on with this update, though. I tried updating again and my iPad went back into recovery mode.

Excellent post sdast9. This was exactly my problem. I had an entry in the hosts file that prevented iTunes from contacting the Apple servers properly. My iPad is now in the process of upgrading to iOS 8.

Glad it helped someone else! Seems like there are multiple issues on this thread. You just have to keep working at it until something finally works.

Funny how the Host removed my entry. Still Apple has not replied an a resolution to an iPad 2 issue disconnecting the service.
