ios - 8 where are the 'camera roll' and 'photostream' albums?

I see the ios8 had done away with the "camera roll" and "photostream" albums and replace them with a "recently added" album. Is there any way to get this old functionality back?

All I want is one folder that contains all the photos on my device and another that contains the photos that I'm happy to share across my devices. I would have hoped I could have create some smart albums, but albums seem to have to be curated manually.

I know I can see all my photos with the photos tab, but there are two issue I have with this, #1 the "collections" interface is horrible – I just want a nice grid of photos like in albums – and #2 my photostream photos are merge within them.

I now have no way of telling if I'm deleting a photo from the phone or the photostream, for example when I'm trying to free up space on the phone.

Would turning on the "icloud photo library" feature help? I would rather not use that as I don't want it to waste all my icloud space.

Something is definitely amiss in photos.

Ignoring the fact the there seems there should be a "My Photo Stream" album which is MIA, I can't believe that Apple sees no need for the camera roll.

Currently even some of their own apps are unable to see all the photos on the device past what is shown in "Recently Added". Settings > Wallpaper for example can't, plus many third party apps like Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc. But Mail, Contacts and Notes can see an "All Photos" album which seems to be the "moments" feed.

Totally agree with you! TOTALLY!

It would just be enough if they would let pleple know what is on the device and what is not.

Apparently now the only way to know if a photo is on the device or is in the stream, it's to go into the single photo and see if there is the possibility to make it as favourite with the HEARTH.

BUT... when you have thousand photos in your gallery... you cant enter each photo and check! There should be a quicker way to go and see!

We need the Camera Roll back and we need a CLEAR distinction between LOCAL photos and iCloud uploaded ones. We should be able to tell what device made a photo. All photos are NOT created equal, Apple.

We need to be able to show an Info panel for a photo with details - camera, title, file format, aperture, etc.

There is now the search field, but the search options are limited. We cannot even search for the camera make.

Dont worry it won't take too much time .. I moved 1000 pics from photos to folders by making a new folder camera roll 🙂 just select all pics day by day and move to new folder in folder.. After that u can upload ur old camera rolls to facebook too .. Because if u won't move them u can't add ur all camera rolls pics to Facebook or other like whatsapp etc

when u will make move when picture from photos to a new folder u will see that pics in three places

1 albums recent added photos

2 new album made by u

3 Photos

when u will delete a pic from one place it will b delete from every where..

for example

find a pic in photos which u have in recently added photos already and then move that pic to a new folder at albums .. And now delete it.. U will delete this pic from every where ...

REcently added photos only showing 20 % of ur totals pics

and all other pics u can find including recently added in photos .. now if u want to have all the pics in albums u will select all day by day and will move to a new folder and It won't take extra space ..

What I don't get is... they say RECENTLY ADDED is kinda like the Camera Roll.... yet if I take a pic with my iPhone it appears under RECENTLY ADDED on both my iPhone and iPad.

Where is this pic stored?

What if I want it ion my phone but not my iPad.... can I not do that anymore?

AND.... in the past you could clear your CAMERA ROLL to weed out older photos, but then still access them on the PHOTOSTREAM on other devices

I just do not understand this whole new concept at all.... maybe I need a video or something. Frustrating....

The problem here remains the loss of distinction between images made ON the device and images MOVED TO the device via iCloud. This causes the user to lose control over the location and origin of the source files making local file management (for space purposes) impossible and cloud management (for copyright purposes and privacy amongst other reasons) also impossible. Apple has remover the user's ability to positively manage the source files in favor of this mixed up mess where images are auto uploaded/download and exist both in the cloud AND on every device. For a pro photographer like me who deals with tens of thousands of images, many of them copywriten, this is an unmitigated disaster. Even if the system had been rolled out intact as Apple had intended it would still be such a messed up way to approach file and cloud management that I'd have to seriously consider abandoning Apple software altogether for the management of my photo library. Clearly this whole approach needs to be re-evaluated and fixed because as it stands right now it is unworkable.

The Photos.app design looks like it wants the usr forget about about file type and storage, and just concentrate on the photos. That is fine, as long as the photo library will provide any necessary metadata relevant for the photo.Only the metadata are missing nearly completelyand the predefined structure is relying completely on capture time and capture location.
