If you have your devices set up to sync, then technically it should. But with Apple updates as of late, this isn't always guaranteed. This may also be one of the reasons why shortcuts disappear. Because you've only done the workaround with one device. I've heard some disconcerting news with Yosemite (pre-builds) and iOS 8 playing "nice" as well. They don't.
I don't have my Mac and iPhone synced through iCloud. But I after I did a backup, and syncing, I turned off Backup, Photo, and Documents and Data. You may have to do the same procedure within all of your devices and computer as well. That's just a guess though. But doesn't hurt to try.
I just find it more convenient, and more reliable manually backing up to my Mac (using Image Capture to save pics and videos, then iTunes to back everything else up). Never have to worry about storage space, as I can allocate saves to different mediums. ie. 2TB external, and 1TB internal drives.
I just realized that iOS 8.1 was just released, please post back on your experience with Yosemite + iOS 8.1 (sans the shortcuts issue). My 5S is working relatively fine with 8.0.2. If I don't need to update, I would prefer not to. Unless 8.1 is much more stable and reliable. tx
