Keyboard shortcut problems in iPhone 5S with iOS 8 update

Hey guys, I just updated to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5S and keyboard shortcuts are not working out. All the shortcuts I had saved before disappeared. This happened to me the last time I updated to iOS 7 with an iPhone 4S and I thought that had something to do with my phone being old. Now that it's a new phone they are all gone! Like an hour ago, I entered new shortcuts and now that I'm typing they disappeared too, anyone has the same problem or a possible solution? Thanks! 🙂

Keyboard shortcuts are still failing here, randomly and intermittently, day-to-day.

Sometimes they come back again, after I turn OFF iCloud Drive, then back on.. Takes a few minutes.... Wait for it...

IF that doesn't work, try turning off Predictive Keyboard, then back on. Maybe, sometimes, that helps...

REbooting usualy makes makes it worse. Shortcuts stop working for hours or days after rebooting...

RInse, lather, repeat... As needed...

Maybe iOS 8.1 will help?

Looks like it has returned to normal for me post iCloud Drive migration. My shortcuts appeared late yesterday without any intervention, toggling of settings, or reboots, and have remained on all my devices. The iCloud Drive migration was the culprit, and documents & data sync stopped supporting shortcuts on iOS 8 for me personally. Syncing is really fast now when I add shortcuts and it looks like they are sticking. At least in my case, this is the longest timeframe that shortcuts have remained on all my devices since upgrading to iOS 8. Hopefully iOS 8.1 due later today, will fix this issue for everyone. I will certainly report back if the issue reappears.

Did you upgrade all of your devices to iCloud Drive? Also, did you then do a "backup now" in iCloud after you migrated over? I am just curious, because as I wrote a couple of weeks ago, this is what I did, and I have never had my shortcuts disappear again. They have remained intact on all of my devices, and I do not need to toggle anything on and off, such as Drive, predictive keyboards, or anything else. I wonder what gives?

I did the same thing, and my shortcuts haven't disappeared since. Been about a week now. I'm pretty sure it has to do with iCloud Drive and iCloud syncing. It got messed up in iOS 8.x.x.

Side note, since I did this, I also turned off Document and Data within iCloud. And the option disappeared and has never come back. No biggie, as I prefer to keep it off anyway. Just mentioning it, as it seems to be another glitch with iOS 8.x.x.

If you modify, add or delete shortcuts do the changes sync across all your devices (Mac and iOS)?

I am now on Yosemite and iOS 8.1 and still have no shortcuts on my iPad, and out of sync shortcuts between Mac and iPhone.

I even tried backing up my plist to my desktop, manually deleting shortcuts from all devices, then restoring the plist and rebooting all devices.

Sad 😟

If you have your devices set up to sync, then technically it should. But with Apple updates as of late, this isn't always guaranteed. This may also be one of the reasons why shortcuts disappear. Because you've only done the workaround with one device. I've heard some disconcerting news with Yosemite (pre-builds) and iOS 8 playing "nice" as well. They don't.

I don't have my Mac and iPhone synced through iCloud. But I after I did a backup, and syncing, I turned off Backup, Photo, and Documents and Data. You may have to do the same procedure within all of your devices and computer as well. That's just a guess though. But doesn't hurt to try.

I just find it more convenient, and more reliable manually backing up to my Mac (using Image Capture to save pics and videos, then iTunes to back everything else up). Never have to worry about storage space, as I can allocate saves to different mediums. ie. 2TB external, and 1TB internal drives.

I just realized that iOS 8.1 was just released, please post back on your experience with Yosemite + iOS 8.1 (sans the shortcuts issue). My 5S is working relatively fine with 8.0.2. If I don't need to update, I would prefer not to. Unless 8.1 is much more stable and reliable. tx

Apple doesn't seem to have a clue about this keyboard shortcuts bug in iOS/ iCloud ... I spent an hour on the phone with Apple support for Friday evening. They finally told me to just "do a backup and a restore, new" — take an aspirin, and call back in the morning... With dozens of discussion topics here, and numerous other discussion topics on many forms, there are hundreds of people facing this problem now. But Apple won't even acknowledge it. Perhaps keyboard shortcuts are very low priority?

The more reports, the sooner it will get fixed.
