How do i use Peer-to-peer AirPlay discovery and playback?

I saw on the Apple iOS enterprise site that I can use AirPlay without connecting to a wireless network, dose this happen via Bluetooth? i cannot discover my iPhone iOS 8 on the AppleTV iOS 8.

From enterprise site;

Peer-to-peer AirPlay discovery and playback.

With iOS 8, you can wirelessly connect iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to Apple TV without first connecting to the organization’s network. Which means you can present or share your work even if you're offline or the organization has a complex network.

I'm new to the string but am having the same problem and the solutions listed have not worked for me. I have a brand new ATV version 3 and a new iPad air. All have required software version. I'm at our farm, which has no wifi and want to play movies from iPad to ATV. I've never hooked the ATV up to a wifi network (straight from box), so that may be problem (might need to register or something). The AirPlay icon won't show on any of our Apple devices. I'd love some assistance if anyone has a solution. Thanks.

You may need to connect to a Wi-Fi network to set it up initially…not sure.

Also have you tried to slide your finger up from the bottom of your device (may have to do it a few times) to bring up your control center?

You should see the Airplay icon listed there.

I never tried to connect my son's iPad mini with my ATV3 until just now. I just checked his iPad Mini and did what I just told you to do and when I clicked on Airplay in the control center. The name of my Apple TV popped up on the screen and I could mirror whatever content was on the iPad Mini could now be seen on the Apple TV.

Make sure you have Bluetooth turned ON with your iPad Air.

On your ATV make sure Bluetooth is turned on with that too.

In the settings for the ATV go down to Airplay and make sure that is turned on.

For Security I have mine checked as "None" (meaning anyone on your WiFi network can use Airplay with your ATV. I believe there are a couple other options if you don't want your guests accessing your ATV.

I have Play from iTunes in the Cloud set to Auto (ATV will play content from iTunes in the Cloud instead of your Airplay device when possible. You can also turn this option off which will just play content from an Airplay device only.

See if any of that helps.

You may be right dvx100shooter ... I have a brand new ATV that I tried connecting without using my home internet (either wired or wireless) but could not get AirPlay to show on the iPad Air2 or iphone6. What I did to get it to work was to plug an Ethernet cable into the ATV and "forgot" my wifi on the iPad and only then did the new AppleTV show in the AirPlay control centre section. I then disconnected the ethernet cable and the connection held between the iPad and the ATV. (I never connected at any stage by wifi). I haven't tried restarting and reconnecting anything yet. This was all a test to see if this could be used on sites where no Ethernet or Wireless connections are allowed to government or corporate networks. Off to sleep now!

I apologize if someone already posted this, but I did not see it.

I was having the same issue, I had the correct hardware and followed all of the steps but was unable to get it to work. My apple TV (Rev A) or ipad were not connected to WIFI, but the peer-to-peer option never showed up.

What I found the key was is that I had to manually set my "require device verification" setting to on within the Apple TV (Settings > Airplay > Security). Once this was set to on, everything started working.

This sounds like the normal AirPlay over wifi rather than Peer-to-Peer. Peer to peer is when wifi is unavailable but wifi would have better performance if/when available... Ethernet is always best, wifi would be next and peer to peer would be the last option but you choose one rather than them working in conjunction with one another...

Thanks for your reply!

But my problem is that when i play music over Airplay it sometime stops. So i was thinking that the connection would improve when the signal is send directly to the Apple TV (peer to peer) and not first to the Router and then to the Apple TV. My mac and my Apple TV are in the same room, while the rooter is in an other part of the flat and is used by a lot of people.

Ethernet is not a solution, because then i could also use a hdmi or audio cable.

How do i use Peer-to-peer AirPlay discovery and playback?
