Why is the camera roll album gone iOS 8

Updated to iOS 8 and the camera roll album is now gone, and all you have is recently added photos and an album for deleted photos which I think completely defeats the purpose of deleting photos. To see the rest of your photos, you have to go to memories or collections or something like that and have to scroll through extremely messy date stamped albums then click on them and it takes you to a map that takes forever to load then you have to zoom in to find the picture you want. This is probably the dumbest thing I have ever seen come from Apple so far. Bring back the old camera roll album and don't force us to use photo stream or iCloud sharing photos or whatever it may be. I want the ability to simply see all of my pictures in one place and scroll through them and if I want them on my Mac I will plug up my phone and sync it. Until then, I'm going to try to go back to ios7. Also after the update my not abused iPhone 5 with 32gig memory is much slower, the apps fade in and out much less smoothly, added more apps from apple that I don't want nor can I delete, and made it ignorantly hard to go through your photos. Very disappointed

iPhone 5, iOS 8

So far, the only fix has been downloading the MyRoll app which allows you to view your Camera Roll and still recognizes it as "Camera Roll". It's a free app.

Problem solved for now.

Apple engineers, WAKE UP!!!! You're going to end up like Blackberry when you think your way is the way or there is NO way. There are plenty of options out there, and if you make foolish, thoughtless mistakes like this again, it may be your demise in the making.

Thank you for your thoughtful explanation, however it does change the fact that as I said in my post, we are users here and feedback goes to Apple. I must disagree with your statement though, regarding feedback being pointless unless backed by others. Remember, feedback is your personal opinion, and if we fail to voice our personal opinion until we feel it is supported by others, then we are doing ourselves a disservice. This is especially evident when it comes to political elections. We all know what happens when people get complacent and don't vote because they feel their voice doesn't count, and elections are decided by one or two votes.

Really. Fax? That's the only way to express our distress to Tim Cook. Is there no forum or email that will get to him? Losing camera roll drastically reduces the usability of Photos on my iPhone.

I called and got the fax number for Apple, and told if you want to let Tim Cook know about something you're unhappy with, you need to fax it to 408-974-6400.

Here's an example of a use case. My wife and I have, between us, two iPhone cameras, and iPad camera, and three other digital cameras. As we put together our photo histories of a vacation, for example, we can easily get the digital camera photos in one place (just plug their data cards into our macs). Now we want to get all the others. Did we miss any from our iDevices. Before it was simple. Go the camera roll on each and see. Right now we can't do that. They're all jumbled together in Collections.

There are lots of other use cases where we have found we want to go to our camera roll album and see the photos taken on those devices, or other images saved into camera roll. It is frustrating, and I would like to find a way to let someone at Apple at a senior level understand the damage they have done to the usability of the Photos app. I don't have a fax machine, so that is not a good solution. Any others?

It is a simple fact that the majority of e-mails or "forms" are never read. An even higher percentage of e-mails are not replied to.

Any time a communication is important to you send a priority letter to a physical address. You still may not receive a reply, but it is likely your letter will be read.

send a fax! a Fax, that woukd be a FAX.?? OMG - how quaint.

You buy a device for £650.00, is uograded by command of the latest and greatest method and fries your device.

contacting customer servuces of a major communications device company using a technology as dead as the John Bull printing sets and chequebook.

in the words as a parody of a famous American Tennis Player slogan, known for his abiding patience an edicate "really Apple - you can't be $#%*=g serious?" 😉.

I too am absolutely flummoxed over the missing Camera Roll. The new whatever it is just does not seem intuitive to me. Case in Point: Lets say I am surfing the web and copy a photo to my ios device. If that photo has any date metadata, it will show up in my albums (whatever one has them all by date) as the date in the metadata and not/not on the date I added it. Sure, it will show up in Recently Added, but it will also drop from recently added in 30 days. Same is true if someone e-mails or texts you a photo. Moreover, with Camera Roll you could see your photos in the order they were taken or added (actually, in order by file name) which I found so very, very easy to use. I just don't get why Apple thinks this new system is better. For some people, maybe it is. But for many of us, it is not!

Apple -- Please, oh please bring back the good old Camera Roll. Sometimes simple IS better.

HI Perter,

i'm not so sure, although not a direct feed it is the official Apple Forum attached to their web site.

i have had several post removed, non i got a valid reason for, other than stating to the effect to remembe i am on Apple forum who's staff read these threads, if i don't like Apple go elsewhere". Gives the moderators name tocontact but that person who pulled the post won't even discuss and won't accept pm's. if asked in a thead retorts 'and why should i want to talk to you?'.

i am not the biggest Apple buyer but i'm a very big fan, i have invested in 4 phones and 3 tablets, simple courtesy creates a better image of of any company within a fanzine and dedicated client base.

Moderators do a dificult job (i've been one), but such high handed rudness undermines confidence, simple as.

Apple's participation in this forum is to ensure that the TOU is not violated. They moderate the forum for that purpose - they do not read the posts to see what the general public is feeling about the latest releases. As petermac indicated, if you want Apple to read something from you, send it to the feedback link.

This is a user to user forum. Apple hosts it, they do not participate in it except in a very limited manner.

And the email for removing a post is a standard email that is sent to anyone who has had a post removed, so not sure what you are even referring to when you say:

I don't ask moderators to chat if that is their prefference, but the game rule changes when they do comment, especially to comment on a members ability or knowledge in such a highly insulting and disrespectful way, in clear contravention of the rules of the forum.

tell me what i did wrong with some mutal respect then i can avoid in the future, the subject was about a poster who water damaged his phone.

i did not critcise Apple, having never needed to take any device for repair which has served to keep my admiration and loyalty for the sheer quality over the years

what is the point of making a remark that had no bearing on my 'offence'? the 'pull' notice actually tells me to contact that person, to find i could not even PM, was i so wrong to ask him to contact me? i did not challenge in open forum so did i deserve such rude high handed arrogance in response?

I like to think i offer help that is worthwhile from my own experiences that helps ithers, i'm not a guru, don't expect to be trolled and treated badly for inocent mistakes.made in good faith.

Moderators never comment in threads, you are mistaken.

You were not addressing a moderator, merely some other poor Apple user (like you are) who probably does not want to reply to your PM, and why should he?

Because your "innocent mistake" in one thread would have resulted in the OP losing any chance of a replacement (in or out of warranty) if they had followed your advice, it may have been in 'good faith' but would you have paid the $400+ that the OP would have lost if he had followed it.

Check your advice before posting it, good faith or not.
