Why is the camera roll album gone iOS 8

Updated to iOS 8 and the camera roll album is now gone, and all you have is recently added photos and an album for deleted photos which I think completely defeats the purpose of deleting photos. To see the rest of your photos, you have to go to memories or collections or something like that and have to scroll through extremely messy date stamped albums then click on them and it takes you to a map that takes forever to load then you have to zoom in to find the picture you want. This is probably the dumbest thing I have ever seen come from Apple so far. Bring back the old camera roll album and don't force us to use photo stream or iCloud sharing photos or whatever it may be. I want the ability to simply see all of my pictures in one place and scroll through them and if I want them on my Mac I will plug up my phone and sync it. Until then, I'm going to try to go back to ios7. Also after the update my not abused iPhone 5 with 32gig memory is much slower, the apps fade in and out much less smoothly, added more apps from apple that I don't want nor can I delete, and made it ignorantly hard to go through your photos. Very disappointed

Uh yes correct, I do hate it and also correct I am not everyone... I was just speaking for the few hundred or so other people whose posts I have seen in the last few hours that expressed displeasure at the lack of a simple and organized camera roll.

As one other poster put it, the pictures are "Segmented and separated to **** and back... I want one place I can scroll through all of them” (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1781452)

I'm glad you seem to like it!

omg. im 100% there with you. i literally created this stupid account to complain about the lack of a camera roll album. it is the most irritation thing. and i agree with the apps it added. why the **** do i need an app on tips for this new iOS 8? what sense does that make to take up room in my phone for dumb little tips that are pointless to begin with. so disappointed.

Exactly my sentiment. The removal of the camera roll is the STUPIDEST change! I'm on an iPhone 5, and given that it's coming up on my time to upgrade my phone this issue is seriously pushing me to switch to a Samsung. I prefer Apple's stability and ease of use. The more they take that away though, the less incentive I have to stay. I use my phone for pictures probably more than anything except phone calls and texting. I hate this change. And the Collections view blows!

I sync my 64gb iPhone and iPad to my computer's MY PICTURES folders and have everything at the tip of my finger by categorized folders.

To mix up my photos from my iPhone into that by date is useless to me and frustrating because I can't just go to the dedicated folder that has the pics that I either took with my phone, or saved to my camera roll that people had sent me.

This is beyond me, why they would do this.

Is there a fix for this? I hate it.

I very much agree with you. My first thought when I went into photos to look through my camera roll was "Where the heck did all my photos go?" Then I found out I was in recently added which I had not heard of.Started looking though the photos app and found the all my photos where in a giant mess of words, numbers, and lots more that was not pleasing to look at. I was looking at the collections and memories tab. It felt like I was trying to spot a needle in a freakin hay stack! I think it has to be the most useless thing iOS 8 had to bring. Why dates? Honestly, I don't really care when I took the darn photo, mush less do I care where I took it! If i want to know where I took it, I will just look at the freakin picture! I am very disappointed that Apple decided to get rid of something useful, and replace it with something inconvenient. I suggest to Apple that they should bring back camera roll and get rid of deleted photos. (cause isn't there a reason you deleted it in the first place?). I think apple could at least add something in settings that allowed you to toggle on and off camera role as well as collections. I want it to be easier for myself when trying to find photos, not more difficult.

I found it a great chance for a clean out, given that I always back my photos up to iPhoto and therefore my System and Data backup for protection. Then I went to most recent and marked those I wished to keep on my phone as 'Favorites' and now have a nice clean folder of Favorites, which I will add to from 'Recently Added' and delete all the c*ap. Now I have a nice tidy phone, but still have all photos backed up on Mac. I don't use Photostream, as I would rather trust my own physical backup method. A great chance for a clean out. Thanks Apple!

very backwards step, always wanted an easy way to name my photos instead of near meangless code. This new stupidity you have to remmember where you took a photo your looking for, so you can fund it in a map.

yer great, so i''m all but lost in the asp end of some country, i take a pic. years later i might remember the girl, even was she good in the sack but not her name or where we met.

WHy not simply make it detetable and leave it up to the user to choose?

DAFT! barely describes it!

I'm forunately not overly affected, surprised to read iOS 7 has already been removed, no option to go back to if you did not back it up, if this is true and so soon is surely rash?

I'm dedicated Apple fanzine through and through, i know it his very hard ti get new software faultless on release, bugs will creep in but this event is beyond the line. I won't be alone in having my confidence severely tested over this release and impacting on their latest range is very worrying that they are dropping the ball more.

it needs sorting and soon, due to serious competion from other brands, long gone are the days Apple could remain aloof and do no wrong.

So you're telling me that instead of deleting my photos in one folder and being done with it, I now have to delete it once, then go to another folder and delete it again? Thank you for enlightening me. Sure is an efficient way of deleting things.

Just like a Mac or a PC (or an Android) delete a file and it goes to a folder named Trash, empty that and the file deleted from the machine.

CHris,

most people realise that i think, many like to see how others feel first before bitterly blasting away at Apple, be pointless complaining to a massive company not knowing if only a few supported your pov.

these devices are not cheap, client expect a level of commiserate service for their patronage and faith, get annoyed when let down..

Being pragmatic, this might very easily have been a simple oversight, like what ever causes the loo of network glitch. in my earliest Apple days i had no control over turning off or on my voice mail or set the delay, i had to ask T-Mobile.

yes it took several updates versions then suddenly the option appeared, frustrating to wait for i'd say yes, not fixed straight away - while annoying, i did not die or get a rash and the thing was actually fixed pretty quickly, not left until a new model phone was launched, as tended to happen on Android platform.

iOS8 Compaints About Camera Roll Being Removed

I called and got the fax number for Apple, and told if you want to let Tim Cook know about something you're unhappy with, you need to fax it to 408-974-6400.

If every single person does this, I think they will hear loud and clear why removing the Camera Roll has created such a major inconvenience, and impediment for the use of the iPhone's photo functionality and use.

I wrote the following and faxed it:

Dear Tim:

I’m very disappointed as an iPhone 5S 64gb user, that the
“Camera Roll” where I stored all pictures taken by my iPhone, or the one’s
saved from eMails, texts, or screenshots is now gone.

Those pictures are now intermingled with 26k photos that I
have on my iPhone that are in their own folders, which were syncd from my
PC. It is now nearly impossible and extremely frustrating for me to try
and find a picture that is hiding among 26k other photos, by date. I
can’t believe this HUGE problem was overlooked.

The complaints are all the same from around the world.
Hopefully you’ll get this message and make sure they change things back and
include Camera Roll on iOS8.

So incredibly upset and frustrated by this arrogant and
ignorant move. So thoughtless to do something like this to your
customers.

Sincerely
