Why is the camera roll album gone iOS 8

Updated to iOS 8 and the camera roll album is now gone, and all you have is recently added photos and an album for deleted photos which I think completely defeats the purpose of deleting photos. To see the rest of your photos, you have to go to memories or collections or something like that and have to scroll through extremely messy date stamped albums then click on them and it takes you to a map that takes forever to load then you have to zoom in to find the picture you want. This is probably the dumbest thing I have ever seen come from Apple so far. Bring back the old camera roll album and don't force us to use photo stream or iCloud sharing photos or whatever it may be. I want the ability to simply see all of my pictures in one place and scroll through them and if I want them on my Mac I will plug up my phone and sync it. Until then, I'm going to try to go back to ios7. Also after the update my not abused iPhone 5 with 32gig memory is much slower, the apps fade in and out much less smoothly, added more apps from apple that I don't want nor can I delete, and made it ignorantly hard to go through your photos. Very disappointed

agreed, I will not buy the new iPhone if this is how the photos and camera are going to be handled. You would think one of the highest grossing and most intelligent electronics company would have seen how terrible of an idea this was during their many months of development. Hopefully this will be seen along with others who feel the same and apple can give us the camera roll album back, thats seriously all I want in my pictures. I don't want to know when I took it, or where, or have pictures organized by these criterion, or several albums to hold other useless stuff and copies, we just need the camera roll.

While the lack of an album is one thing, the fact that apps can only choose photos from albums is a problem. There needs to be a way for apps to be able to grab from ALL photos, not just recent ones or manually created albums. Is this a way to force developers to implement PhotoKit for even simple messaging apps? The Apple made "Messages" app has an option above all of the albums for an "All Photos" album, but other apps do not.

I can't believe they would do something this unintelligent. They need to bring back the camera roll and make it possible to disable the Recently Deleted folder.And to top it all, apps can't access all photos anymore, they can only access the "recent photos" album. I love Apple, but this is so not like them. I won't be getting another iPhone if this how it's going to be.

That's how it works on the desktop, both in Windows (Recycle Bin) and in OS X (Trash). It's also how deleting voicemails has worked on the iPhone from the first day. And it's how deleting e-mails work on any platform; you delete the e-mail and it goes into the trash and then either trash automatically gets emptied (usually after 30 days) or you manually empty the trash. Maybe Apple is just trying to unify the file deletion paradigms?

The default Photo Stream functionality has changed in a way that regular people will probably like but that we personally find annoying. iOS 8 does away with the concept of the "camera roll," the album of photos taken locally on the device you're actually holding in your hands. Now iCloud photos and local photos all mix together into one continuous stream.

"Many will like this because it makes all of your stuff available everywhere, and it means you won't have to poke around in different albums to find a picture if you don't remember whether you took it on your iPhone or iPad. If you're taking a few hundred screenshots for something like this review, though, it's a little irritating to get screenshots from multiple devices plus pictures from iPhoto all mixed together. You've got to turn Photo Stream off if you only want to see the stuff that's actually on your device.

After some playing around it seems like some apps (like Instagram) can access all photos, so even though there isn't a Camera Roll album, apps can access them, it's just going to require every app that wants to access your photos to update or be forced to only work with recent photos.

Yeah, I bet we get it back in an 8.x update. I swear, every time there is a major update, they always take away one or two really simple and usable features for the sake of their design philosophy. Last year it was the ability to scale your wallpaper to your exact preference, this year it's being able to view your photos in one album wothout all that date and location nonsense breaking everything up.

Just got off the phone with apples engineer manger and it fixed my photo issue, if you photos were backed up then go to settings icloud turn off photostream then turn it back on and go to you photos app and it should start loading your photos you had backedup. Hope this help and please the information on. Thank you

I completely agree! I am reconsidering even buying the iPhone 6 if I don't have a camera roll. iOS 8 is supposed to be about being more convenient, yet the new recently added and recently deleted (which you have to go through and delete all phones a SECOND time which is repetitive) are extremely inconvenient. And they way in which I have to look at my photos through the collections is terrible!!! BRING BACK THE CAMERA ROLL!

OMG I AGREE THIS IS HORRIBLE why would they remove camera roll!!! all you can see is your recently added! like why would they even do that? :-( so what about all your other pictures? this is where I keep all my pictures and its a big part of my phone! please please change this and bring camera roll back!!

I completely agree getting rid of camera roll is a bad thing. What If i take a picture and I don't want it on my photo stream. I can delete it and be assure that its not on any of my devices. Now I'm stuck I take a picture its on everything if I want it deleted it. it delete it from all my device.

BAD BAD BAD. Yes I can shut it off but that not the point.

Also say you have older photos you want to share now you have to go to moments to see them. well on fb or twitter. Go Check to see if you can. NOPE you can't you only see the last 30 or 40 pictures that are in the recent added. FB and twitter still think its a camera roll but no option to go back to any and all photos.

APPLE you need to come up with the fix NOW. put it back. We understand you want to make a edit and have it go to all your device but that needs to be kept in photostream. This angers me as I did buy the new phone. I hope they see all these people complaints and give the users options to do what they want with there devices. Another side note. If you have an iPhone 4 or 4s with photo stream. it will no longer work once your apple account is converted to IOS 8

I think it is a bug on the Photos app that resulted in the loss of the "Camera Roll".

I've noticed this:

If you try to send a photo through iMessage you will be able to access an album named "All Photos".

I guess THAT is the "Camera Roll" new name on iOS 8, but somehow it is missing right now on the Photos app.

I really hope Apple fix this.

Yeah, you guys are right.

But still...

Have you noticed that apps with sharing opition can't access all photos on you iPhones???

Like, iMessage can, but all others can't. Only the "recently added" ones.

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter... They can't access all photos, only the "recently added" album.
