Handoff not working between iPad and iPhone

i have installed ios 8 on both my iPhone 5 & iPad 4th generation. They are both on the same wifi network & both have Bluetooth switched on. In settings I have made sure hand off is switched on.

I can make a regular call on my iPad but that's where the continuity seems to end. I don't see a button to open Safari on the lockscreen when it is in use on another device, I cant pass a half written email from one device to another, or see Pages documents etc. I'm at a loss.

Instant Hotspot is the only thing of interest to me.

My wife, who has no tech savvy whatsoever, had no problem with her iPhone appearing under a new "Personal Hotspot" section of the wifi list on her iPad Mini.

However, I think Smidji may be correct, and although there is no list of "qualified devices", it appears that an iPad Gen 3 cannot connect via an Instant Hotspot. I am looking for confirmation one way or the other.

I checked "supportprofile", and since my wife's iPhone 5 Instant Hotspot works just fine without being on the list, I don't see it as a problem.

I Toggled Blootuth and iMessage.

I did restart both my iPhone 5C and iPad 3rd Gen.

But I couldn't locate a "toggle" for iCloud unless one means to actually log the iPad out of iCloud, which is not a simple toggle and involves the possible loss of photos and the need to re-establish contacts, etc.

However, if one means "iCloud Drive", my wife doesnt have it on, and her Instant Hotspot works just fine.

Besides, I read that turning on iDrive before it is also available for the iMac via Yosemite interferes with the current inter-iDevice sharing method.

Just for fun, I will also mention that placing and receiving phone calls via my iPad works just fine.

So was just wondering if anyone with an iPad 3rd Gen has or has not gotten it to connect via another iDevice's Instant Hotspot.

Hi,

tried it all. Nothing works, but my problem is even stranger.

iPad Air & iPhone 5, all updated, all on the same network, bluetooth enabled, etc - the works!!

When i open on my iPad Safari/Contacts/Calendar/Reminders/Maps they show on my iPhone home screen (but not pages, numbers, keynote).

Now - wait for it - I open the same apps on my iPhone (Contacts/Calendar/Reminders/Map) they show on my iPad EXCEPT safari. (again not pages, numbers, keynotes).

Phone calls come through on both and I foolishly thought 8.0.2 would fix it. Tried all of tips and tricks available on the net, but may have missed one ;}

Does s/o out there has a solution?

HEy, I thought I'd jump into the fray too. I have an iPhone 5c and iPad Mini (1) both of which are upgraded to 8.0.2, but like Just about EVERYONE, I am having trouble with handoff. I Have already tried the listed solutions as of 10/3/14. I can cross recieve text and calls, but no cross usage on mail, Safari, keynot, pages, or anything else. I am also not getting location based app suggestions. PLEASE HELP ME! I have a pretty large background in IT (and I still can't fix it(!) ) so feel free to tell the solution like it is.Thanks!

Hi y'all.

my problem is still ongoing and it is just between iPad/iPhone. Waiting for Yosemite upgrade in UK, but have not much hope, as now my iPad is frequently not bringing up Swiftkey keyboard, actually no keyboard at all until I go into Setting>General>Keyboards>Keyboard>Swiftkey>Allow Full Access = toggle off & on, ok it and continue my work......frustrating to say the least and often not the work is utter to myself ;}

C'mon Apple guys, great products, but fix this and other problems. The competition is already snapping at your heels.
