Since upgrading to iOS 8 my location services icon in the status bar always stays on. Anybody else experiencing the same issue?
Aperture 3, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
I always set up everything to go on WiFi yet have been going over data every month. After closing every app and making sure background apps were turned off, etc. Every time I look at my phone the location icon is on unless I turn location services off completely.
in ios7 you can go under settings/privacy/location services
and there should be a purple arrow showing any app that is using your location at that moment.
Thanks, discovered this issue to be related to 2 apps that must not be fully supporting the iOS 8 since they were not behaving like this iOS 7. One of them being Google the other a local traffic status app which had geo-fence enabled.
Changing location services to "never" for find my friends got rid of the icon. Looks like I can still find my friends, they just can't find me now. The icon was driving me nuts so I guess that's the way it's going to be. Hope that helps.
For me it was the Verizon app that I needed to turn location services to never. It says to have it on always so it can locate the closest verizon store, which I can live without.
I've got the same problem, but I disabled Foursquare (apps with the purple arrow) are constantly with localization service, its not just the problem that its tracking you, it consumes a lot of data (of my plan) and battery... please do something with those apps
Had the same issue, and it was driving me nuts. Ended up being the Delta app...
For me, Traffic was permanently on ( Settings / Privacy / Location Services / System Services / Traffic )
Now I just need to work out what goes wrong by turning it off permanently.
Same thing happening here. For the record, I didn't not use a old back up. I set it up as a brand new iPhone.

I had this happen and it was really bugging me. Here is what worked for me after trying what people suggested on this post. Go to ( Settings / Privacy / Location Services / System Services / Status Bar Icon ). I switched the Status Bar Icon (down on the very bottom) to off and it went away. Everything still seams to function normally. Hope this helps.
Update on this.
The Delta App update means it is no longer a problem for this.
Foursquare, however, was my problem.

I found that the app 8mm was using location services continuously (it had a purple arrow in the location services list). I turned off location services for this app and the problem was fixed.
Starbucks was my culprit.
In my case it was the Starbucks app. Recently updated it and found it is always running in the background with GPS turned on. Given the recent Starbucks App hack (http://money.cnn.com/2015/05/13/technology/hackers-starbucks-app/). I have removed the App from my phone.
I have tried everything everyone has suggested on this thread. I have read articles on this issue and tried their suggestions. I have spoken to friends and tried their advice-- all to no avail.
ONE Example of My Issue:
I use the Weather Channel app maybe like 5 times a year. I have it set it for use only when I use the app. I checked two weeks ago, and I checked again today. There is a gray icon next to the app. in the location settings; which means it had been used within a 24 hour period. I HAVEN'T USED THIS APP. SINCE JULY!
My battery is draining so so quickly. I have to always be connected to a wire. I'm sick of it. It only started with the new update. I have the iPhone 5. Please help.
