Photos out of order in Events after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5s that I just updated to iOS 8. I sync photos from my Aperture library on my Mac, which show up as a "Events From My Mac" album under "Albums" in the Photos app on my iPhone. In iOS 7 and before, events synced from Aperture would show in reverse chronological order, which made sense. Upon updating to iOS 8, all the events are in a random order. I have events from 2008, followed by 2010, then 2009, then 2012, then 2008, etc...

Has anyone else run into this issue? I know that I'll probably have to resort to telling iTunes to stop syncing photos, delete the "iPod Photo Sync" folder from inside the Aperture package, then re-sync all the photos, but before I go through all that trouble, I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.

Sorry, I agree with Flyboy... Mine is all "tagged" right and that doesn't do it for me either.

Or is it something that I miss in your EUREKA moment?

Please tell me how you organize your pics so that I can understand...

btw. Even if you are right I still think it's bad that you cannot do it the old way (what on earth was wrong with that?)

That plus the fact that we had the same issues (but got resolved) in iOS7, so I doubt this is intentional. It's just sloppy

Thanks

Yes. Why is the order different on different devices. iTunes in alphabetical order on mac, seems to be album release order or something on Iphone. Contacts where a number (say house number), numerical on mac, alphabetical order on Iphone 1, 11, 111 before 2, 21, 210 etc. This photo nonsense... The key is why different order on different devices?

Agreed, but iPhoto and all things associated with it have been buggy for YEARS, even before Jobs death. Can't tell you how many times I've had to rebuild my iPhoto library....how many photos have been lost, damaged, etc. Remember how bad the initial cloud service (.Mac or something like that) was? That was completely on Jobs watch. Really is too bad they've become so sloppy though. Someone does need to get their *** kicked.

Yeah, me neither. Never had any problems with Aperture.

I have written before how the new "sorting" works:

Someone mentioned earlier that the sorting is fine after syncing one event at a time. This made me think. If you've ever watched your photos app while syncing, you might have noticed that photos never sync from start to finish, but much rather in a random order. So I have kept a close look at a sync after wiping the phone of all photos. And there you go: The photos stayed in the exact same order they have been synced in.

The "sync-one-event-at-a-time" workaround is the logical solution, but with as many events as many here and also myself have (and also having them packed up in albums in Aperture) you might have to quit your day job to do so. And of course, if you create a new event later, that's not at the end of your sort order, you'll have to start all over again.

I've tried several times - this always applied!

For years - starting pre-iPhoto - I kept photos organized by named folders, and viewed them with Graphic Converter. This system was good for organization, plus I was always apprehensive about letting an application take care of my back-office work, as iPhoto did. But, as iPhoto evolved it became the clearly better choice for viewing and light photo editing, and finally I abandoned the old system and began to use iPhoto (later Aperture) as my exclusive storage and sync photo application.

I'm nervous about the new direction Apple seems to be taking photo organization in the OS X / iOS world. iPhoto and Photos worked great but now - iOS Photos has abandoned the Camera Roll and other useful device albums in favor of the new "everything, everywhere, all the time and in one big pile, whether you like or not!" approach; and Apple has EOL'd iPhoto for OS X in favor of the new "Photos" application, which I fear will share more than simply a name with its iOS counterpart. I'm holding my breath now, and most *certainly* have abandoned plans to go back through those pre-iPhoto folders and import them into iPhoto!

Well, in fairness they may still be sorting through these issues and we'll be okay with what they give us. That is not to say that they shouldn't have started sorting *sooner*, but maybe in the enthusiasm for a new system of sharing they lost sight of the old. Or something. I'm trying to be charitable, and remain calm, but I'm mentally preparing myself for a possible New Scheme come 2015.

I Hope I'm not right, but just took a look at the new Yosemite photo app screen and it looks like their is no tab for events anymore. I think they are moving towards collections years etc. this would be bad news because then what happens to all the photos we have organized by event. Will they just be placed in the albums section or be re organized into collections by date taken etc. this would totally make photos so disorganized. Ugghhh

When I go on, e.g., a trip and come home, I gather all my photos from the trip (iPhone, camera, iPad, etc.) and collect them together into a single Event. From time to time I also make Albums with photos from different events. By and large what I wind up syncing back to my iOS devices are Albums, rather than Events (dunno why, just happens that way). My question is - what if "Photos for OS X" no longer distinguished "Events" and "Albums" and kind of mushed them all together into a single kind of Event-bum or Al-vent, where you could collect and organize related photos together, and easily label them, but other than that, all photos were otherwise stored, in undifferentiated fashion, in "Collections" or "Moments" - is that workable? What would be the downside(s)? My own use of "Events" vs. "Albums", particularly when syncing to iOS devices, is so limited that I am just looking for a little help in thinking this through.

Thanks -

I read through a pretty comprehensive OS X Photos article by Rene Richie at iMore: http://www.imore.com/photos-os-x-yosemite-explained

It goes into as much detail as is available right now regarding Photos in Yosemite. The section that most concerned me was:

In terms of organization, Apple has shown that the same, automatically generated Years, Collections, and Moments views that currently exist in Photos for iOS will be implemented in Photos for Mac, as will Albums. How existing iPhoto Events get mapped, be it to Moments, to Albums, or to something else, remains to be seen.

So it's just not known at all what's happening to well-organized iPhoto libraries once the transition happens. It's a little maddening that we're not only left wondering what the new solution will be, but also for such a length of time! Why on earth is the roll out of the new Photos system happening piecemeal over iOS 8 (Sept 2014), then Yosemite ("Late 2014"), and THEN OS X Photos ("Early 2015")? Why on earth won't Apple explain how the transition is going to happen? If I need to re-map my Events into Albums in order to preserve them, I'd sure like to know sooner than later.

I'm most concerned about what iCloud Photo Library is going to mean to users like ourselves, with very large iPhoto libraries. Will iCloud Photo Library be the ONLY way to sync photos to iOS in the future? Will iTunes syncing vanish? And if so, does that mean if I've got a multi-GB photo library on my Mac, I'll suddenly have to PAY for extra iCloud space in order to sync the whole thing to an iOS device? That's absurd if true. But Apple has been so slow to release any meaningful info about the future of photos on the platform that I'm just left to stress and speculate.
