Ipad mini with retina wifi extremely slow/dead after ios 8 update

Sorry. This solution doesn't work for everyone. I performed a network reset and I continue to have a problem.

Update: the network reset works - but doesn't hold. So, I know if I do a reset, I will get a connection, at least for awhile.

That's the good news, and bad news.

I did factory reset AND forgot all my wifi connections, and it appears to have fixed the sluggishness...for now...it's been about 2 hours so far

I did a factory reset as well and it worked. I then did a restore from iTunes and it broke again.

So for me, just resetting the settings didn't do it, I had to set up my iPad mini entirely from scratch.

I had some VPN software running on it before and not sure if something got screwy in there b/c even after a reset I sometimes got asked for my VPN password.

I did the network reset and it worked for a few hours and then stopped working again.

Originally I was connected to a 5 GHz Wifi router. I just switched to a 2.4 GHz router and it seems to be working OK ... but I won't be confident until I have 2-3 days without any issues.

There must be a software issue ... hopefully Apple will work on a patch that can be pushed out soon.

Just wanted to chime in and say that my iPad Air's wifi connection has been iffy since the iOS 8 update as well. like a few others, I have a dual band router and when I switched it to the 2.5ghz signal it started working again. You might want to stay off the 5ghz band until a fix is issued.

I am happy to find I am not the only one who has had internet connectivity issues. I thought originally it was just apps that havent updated to ios8...for example it craps out randomly on the CNN app while watching the news...never had issues before and I've got 20mbps and a new Belkin dual channel router. As I read some said the issue seemed to be resolved renewing the license...yeah it does work for awhile, sometimes for even a day for me...only to break again. I havent tried switching to the 2.4ghz channel as I really dont want slower internet. Man I wish I had a backup to restore to.

I Had wifi issue and heating problem but I found a solution that I did a reset all setting on my iPad mini 2 and reset my portable wifi router...now that work is fine

HI Alan, tried your method, but reseting the network works for a little while, but the same drop out keeps getting back. Apple changed the way wifi works in IOS8 to prevent tracking by third party's, such as shops. Logging on with different MAC addresses everytime or so. Even when it finds my Belkin wifi-station, it just won't connect often, and then suddenly it does. Not sure my old wifi-station can handle this new method properly.

Could the problem be at the wifi-station side ?

Anyone has an idea how to properly set things up on a wifi-station ?

Factory reset made it work. Go to Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings. Then I restored with iCloud. You'll need to remeber your Apple ID and your password. Not once in 6 hours after I got it fixed has the Internet stopped working. Still have the IOS8 after all this. Still have all my sites and Apps.

The 2.4 GHz band is not a slower internet connection. It is simply a different frequency to communicate with your router. Cordless phones use the 2.4 GHz frequency also, so sometimes the wifi will cause interference on your cordless phones. But using the 2.4 GHz frequency will not slow your Internet speeds.

I was using the 5ghz band on my IPad air with iOS 7.1.2 without any wifi issues. After installing ios 8 safari was practically dead. As soon as I switched to a 2.4ghz band everything was fine. i just verified again that the 5ghz band seems useless in iOS 8.

5GHz dual band works just fine for me on AirPort routers. You need to set the channel to auto.

MMy 2.4 ghz band is wireless n while my 5 is ac so it's definitely faster. And neither band really works well. No matter what I do after a few hours it's back to sluggish again. Has to be software related as I haven't had any issues until now.
