Ipad mini with retina wifi extremely slow/dead after ios 8 update

Same issue here. I've tried everything including a complete factory reset. I'll have connectivity for a few minutes and then suddenly everything slows to a halt, where rebooting the iPad will fix it for a few more minutes for me. Ugh.

Turning off bluetooth i would reduce's the attempts to transfer data over that channel, with network not hooking in the device software will try other options, having no success will 'poll' all available options (that are not disabled). will seem quicker because it no longer tries bluetooth smoothes the surge's caused by the waits as it was trying bluetoothe.

I'm not one for modding or jailbreaking, i take the personal view if i wanted my devices to lock up umpteen times a day, i'd dig out my old windows ce phones 🙂.

not casting any judgement, but curious if this is contributory a factor?

i've been their myself in the past, so know just how it feels and that was before internet was anything more than using a modem to read a bullet in board.

You should still have lightning cable linked to a PC, suggest try to backup the restore it, or to a previous working backup.

one has posted by doing a backup, factory reset and reloading that last backup fixed his mini.

Connectivity issues here, too. Strangely when I was having connectivity issues with my home wifi, I tested by connecting to the wifi in my smartphone with verizon, and had no problem. So it has problems grabbing or interacting with the home wifi System. I followed earlier advice to do a network settings reset. It worked and my wifi connectEd immediately. I don't know if it will last ... FYI my turner Classic movies app now crashes. Waiting for a fix.

If you are setting a static 5ghz (dual-band) channel on your wireless router, that may be the problem. Try setting your router to "automatic" if you can.

This can be accomplished by taking the following steps:

1. Open up spotlight (cmd+space) and type "airport utility" if you are running an AirPort router of any type.
2. Click on the icon for your airport, then click on "Edit"
3. Click on the "Wireless" tab
4. Click on the "Wireless Options" button
5. change 5GHz channel to "Automatic" from the dropdown menu.
6. click save

This will restart your AirPort and should fix your Retina Mini wifi problem. I am getting 100Mbps+ down and 100Mbps+ up on gigabit AC wireless.

As to why this is happening? No idea, and it would be a waste of time to even guess. Cheers!

P.S. If you have a non-airport router, you can see if this problem translates by logging into your router's admin panel. Steps for access should be in the instruction manual that came with it.

Yes I will try. I know the ipad minis, 1st gen and the ipad 2 are fine. However my new ipad air is pooped after this update. We've a new router and BT infinity so I know it's not the net as I've tried it on other wi-fi too.

It is annoying having to stop by and use a pc/mac to sort stuff out I could usually do on the go with my ipad, until the wi-fi issue. As yes as it is, it's dead. I only use it for checking/replying to email and doing online stuff I need to get done whilst I am "on the go" so to speak and not at home. Or I'm at home and away from the mac.

So I can live without wifi on my ipad. I'm just quite cross it's managed to screw the main function on a £600 <1year tablet.

Postscript: resetting network settings was a TEMPORARY fix. After a bit of time,i again lost my home wifi signal. But another reset reconnected me. Hopefully, this temporary fix continues to work until an iOS 8 update.

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 5. Sometimes the wifi goes well and sometimes it doesn't load anything

Same issues. network reset and static ip worked literally for 30 seconds.

Never had a problem before ios8

This is despite it showing me connected. iphone on ios8 works fine.

I had this problem as well last night when I tried to use my iPad Mini w/R - this may not have any bearing at all on your respective networks but I run a Dual Band Router, I run my iPad and iphone on the 5Ghz band. My iPhone is fine but my iPad mini wouldn't even load Google! So I dropped onto my 2.4Ghz band and BOOM, speedy internet with no issues and was still working fine this morning - I haven't tried adding it back onto my 5Ghz band just yet - so it may have just been a coincidence but just thought I would post it on here to see if it helps anyone...

II've got an original iPad mini which I recently updated to 8. It was slow for a night and is now completely dead. Black scReen. Wow, I can only attribute this to the update.
