iOS 8 5ghz wifi dropping

Hi

It appears that since ios8 5ghz wifi no longer functions correctly. The iPad is connected to the network but it stops responding and lags. A reset fixes the issue for a few minutes but it then returns.

Switching to 2,4ghz works fine.

Is this a bug with ios8 that anyone else has Encountered?

I'm having problem to even get into 5Ghz SSID. When both my iPhone 6 Plus AND iPad Air drops 5Ghz, and I try to get back in, it prompts me to re-enter my Password, which was already registered. But, when re-entering my password, it will go into a continuous loop and never accepting my password. had to reboot my ASUS RT-AC68U router to get back to 5Ghz. I've already updated with iOS 8.0.2 via OTA update. Anyone has thing issue?

Yes, alf69mi, I'm thinking my issue with the WiFi 5GHz dropping and then unable to connect may be the ASUS RT-AC68U fault. But, the continuous loop on requiring of re-entering of password is new and never happened until iOS 8.0.2 update. Hope Apple can fix the common WiFi drop issue first so I can narrow down the source of the problem. Otherwise, ASUS will just blame my iOS devices when calling their service center.

-- iPad Mini Retina

Detects 5GHz reliably and almost immediately (2 sec slower than 2.5GHz). Holds 5GHz with 1-less signal bar than 2.5GHz, only seen drop 1-2 times in one week. The speed is ~50% slower than it should be, however.

-- iPad 3

5GHz is sporadically detected. Drops after 10-15 minutes, 2.5GHz is fine.

-- iPhone 6

5GHz is sporadically detected. Drops after 10-15 minutes, 2.5GHz is fine.

All devices have iOS 8.0.2 installed. The router is Apple TimeCapsule. Never had problems with it before.

Tried clean installs, tried resetting the router, choosing different channels. Nothing changed. iOS 8 bug.

-- Macbook Pro 13 Retina Late-2013 and Macbook Air 11 Early-2014

Detect 5GHz instantly, hold it for weeks without any drop outs (OS X Yosemite Beta and Mavericks, respectively). Only some slowness after waking from sleep.

I thought I was going mad!

It's not limited to iOS8 for me, it started when I upgraded to a BT Home Hub 5 which has 2.4gHz and 5gHz

Currenntly running:

iMac 27" Late 2012 - Mavericks

MacBook Air Mid 2012 - Yosemite Beta 5

iPhone 5 - iOS 8.0.2

iPad Mini (Retina) - iOS 8.0.2

iPad 3 (Retina) - iOS 8.0.2

Up to a couple of weeks ago, I'd get a glitch where I could see the network but was stuck in the log in loop. Constantly asking for password, on all devices, but not at the same time.

Problem resolved by restarting the router.

Since the upgrades to iOS 8, and 8.0.2, I don't get the log in loop any more - which used to alert me to a problem - now I just get drop-outs. Face time calls will bomb out, I'll get pages not loading as not connected to the internet, even though Wi-Fi is at full strength.

I use RowMote Helper/Pro for pure laziness, and the last week or so, the iOS devices connect to the BigMac sporadically, and I've had to actually get up to pause shows! (The horror!)

I've just gone into the router and manually switched off the 5gHz frequency, and since running on 2.4gHz, it's been much more stable - no bomb outs yet.
