iOS 8 5ghz wifi dropping

Hi

It appears that since ios8 5ghz wifi no longer functions correctly. The iPad is connected to the network but it stops responding and lags. A reset fixes the issue for a few minutes but it then returns.

Switching to 2,4ghz works fine.

Is this a bug with ios8 that anyone else has Encountered?

I'm seeing a similar issue, but it depends where I am.

If I am close to the 5ghz router, everything seems to work fairly well...

I think the issue occurs as I get a bit further (still well within range), and I think the SNR for the 2.4ghz network gets similar to the 5ghz network. Then I start to see problems.

I'm tempted to disable the 2.4ghz network temporarily so I see if this is the conflict (obvious bug is iOS8)

-- iPhone 5S

5Ghz is sporadically detected even when close to the router.

5Ghz signal strength is about one bar lower than it typically is (when detected)

5Ghz signal drops out at random intervals, but typically won't stay connected longer than 30 minutes

-- iPad Air

Doesn't appear to have issues with 5Ghz

5Ghz signal strength appears normal

Both devices have been completely wiped and setup as new devices under iOS 8.

2.4Ghz works fine on both devices.

iPad Mini Retina. Full wipe and reinstall of iOS8 via iTunes.

I seem to be having the same problems on both 2.4 and 5. It'll work fine then just stop sending/receiving. WiFi indicator never shuts off. In and out of Airplane mode does nothing, but turning on and off WiFi restores the access. Rebooting also fixes it.

Connecting to an Airport Extreme 5th generation with the current 7.6.4 firmware. No other router is available for testing.

Forum won't let me edit my post. See updates below

-- iPhone 5S

WiFi indicator drops out to LTE

Currently testing different 5GHz channels

Can get it to consistently drop out in less than 5 min by streaming iTunes Radio

-- iPad Air

-- Netgear WNDR3700 (router)

2.4Ghz / WPA2-PSK [AES] / CH1

5Ghz / WPA2-PSK [AES] / CH149+153

All worked fine prior to the iOS 8 update

Have performed resets on both iOS and router

Swapped through all 5GHz channels with no change in dropouts, although I did seem to get higher signal strength from the higher channels with 157+161 working the best. It appears to not drop out when it is playing iTunes Radio while locked, but drops out within a minute after unlocking. Performing a fresh install through iTunes to see if it helps.

I have had the same issue with my 5Ghz channels on my iPhone 5S updated the same day as iOS8 was launched. Whenever I am using the Wifi intensively on the phone like VOIP calls and streaming music, it just gets disconnected and starts using my LTE network. Never ever happened in iOS 7 for me.

On the other hand my Macbook Air and Nexus 4 both stay connected to my Cisco 5GHz network with excellent signal strength.

Can Apple Support atleast reply that they are working on it and recognize this as a known Bug?

Given that Apple have yanked the 8.0.1 update because it stops some iPhone 6's from using cellular data, perhaps a downgrade to 7.1.2 will restore normal operation until Apple get iOS8 to where it should be...

I'm not sure if they're still signing 7.1.2, but if they are I'd get back to it and stay there until 8 behaves more reliably.

Same problem here. My 5s will connect to my 5ghz wifi for maybe 5 minutes before it cuts out and I'm using LTE. Then I have to go into the wifi settings, wait for the wifi options to even load on that screen, then select it again. It connects (though at less strength than normal) but again drops within a few minutes. It stays connected to my 2.4ghz wifi just fine without dropping. I updated to 8.0.2 as well this morning but it does not fix the problem. I really hope someone from Apple can at least acknowledge this issue because I'm extremely annoyed.
