How is it possible that Apple removed Iphoto for IOS 8 but did not give us something that was just as good or better. With IOS 8, we are left with the Photos app which is really poor for editing photos. In my opinion, Apple has downgraded the usefulness of my Ipad; they should immediately provide an acceptable replacement for Iphoto for IOS.

Right now, Photos is really very basic, and does not provide the advanced editing options that made iPhoto so great - brushes, tagging, adding captions. Journals are, slideshows are gone.

We are not supposed to speculate here, so that is hard to answer. But a tentative explanation: iOS 8 has a very different architecture from previous iOS versions. Now it is very easy to supplement any application with app extensions. Apple is expecting the third party developers to offer suitable extensions for the basic iOS apps. We will soon see, if the developers are up to this challenge and add what is now missing to the Photos app.

NNot only have apple eliminated iphoto from iOS 8 but they gave us no compensation in return.Pixelmator costs $12.99Aus.This is the alternative.But I paid real money for the iphoto for my iPad and now it's gone after the iPad upgrade.This is truly bad form from a U.S.A. I've been saying the same thing. I'm so disappointed. I don't want a third party alternative. My only thought is that Apple is no longer interested in the category of advanced enthusiast photographer. For those happy to take a few snapshots with their iPhone or iPad, it's fine. But otherwise, what they are offering in IOS8 is useless.
I absolutely agree. After my upgrade I could not access I photo and now find out it's not an option. I am not able to upload photos from my canon SD1200IS and wonder what the heck am I supposed to do? Do I really have to pay for a new app which is not even up to iPhotos???? I am so over Apple. I know Steve Jobs is turning over in his grave.

You can upload photos from your camera to the iPad with an adaptor purchased from the Apple store for $29. For a casual photographer who just wants the photos to show on the iPad, it will be fine. But if you want to know that with a certain camera setting you achieved what you wanted to achieve with your photo then you need more than what the "Photos" app currently gives. iPhoto gave us that information -- here's an example of the metadata shown with iPhoto for each and every photo taken:
In any case, I've resolved my issue as follows:
1. My plan is to use a MacBook Air to review my photos using iPhoto while I'm traveling.
2. My intention is to stick with the operating system 10.9.5 for as long as possible on my MacBook Pro. That way I'm going to hold onto iPhoto and iMovie (with the chapters option) at least until I find a worthy substitute. One lesson I've learned is that a new operating system doesn't necessarily give me something better than I had so I never just upgrade without making sure I'm going to be happy.
2. So as to not further aggravate myself, I've removed the "App" icon from my doc. I can still go to the App store if I need to, obviously but at least the whole idea of it isn't on my desktop.
3. I'm returning the new iPad mini, the case, and the camera connector. Without iPhoto, the iPad doesn't do what I need it to do.
4. Regarding your comment about Steve Jobs rolling over in his grave, I do think he would be deeply saddened. I'm reminded of when he got back to the faltering Apple and simplified things. I can just see him slashing products right and left to bring the company back within his vision.
All of this said, Apple is still the best thing out there and for that I'm grateful. It's just disappointing to see a company that is so highly regarded falter.

The missing warning before the upgrade to iOS8 was a big problem, because there was no way to know, which applications will continue to work, without doing the upgrade. It is just not user friendly, that upgrading the operating system will render important applications useless, without a clear warning about the compatibility issues before the upgrade, since there are no supported ways to downgrade iOS to an earlier version.
I have just come to use iPhoto now, I haven't used it in ages but wanted to start using it again. Here I see it has been removed and doesnt work anymore, why have Apple done this? With no notification or customer support, just gone. They made a huge song and dance about it when it was released, things like this make me very dubious about supporting Apple products. Imagine in Adobe just decided that PS wasn't going to be around any more
