I've had the same problem, but I think I've now resolved it, fingers crossed, I'm not sure what caused it, but it involved the U2 Album and Digital Booklet and possible along with the latest upday, this is on an iPad mini by the way. I connected the ipad to my desktop (macpro), opened up iTunes, and then from the menu bar 'store' > view account, logged in and long side the Apple ID Summary there was a not 'Download waiting...' or something like that, clicked on that a couple of times, and the booklet downloaded, I then synced the ipad with itunes. And to make sure I had the book, I then went back into iTunes Store, not from the ipad by the way, into music>purchased, (under artist and not album)>recent purchase, and there it was, saved it to the desk top, just to make sure it was a complete download.... I've not had the pop up window since... and thats been about 2 hours, it would have popped up about 3/4 times usually within that time.

Will update if it reappears, but at the moment things are looking good.

Ok, this worked for me:

settings - iTunes & App Store - click AppleID and you'll be prompted to enter your AppleID password.

Afterwards an error prompt came up (I didn't really read it as i just assumed it was the "unable to download" error I'd be seeing 1000 times a day) but as I hit dismiss I realised the error actually said something along the lines of "unable to download iBook" or "unable to download iTunes booklet" in any case, I hit 'dismiss' or 'cancel' and I haven't had the error prompt since.

I'm using an iPhone 4s and had this problem since upgrading to ios8 like everyone else.

note: I have not downloaded the new U2 album.

i really hope this works for everyone - it has been such an annoying experience.

I too have been getting this error constantly.

I do have some useful information though. Today my internet went out and I got a completely different error. My iPod just went back to getting the old error, but here's the error I got when my internet went out.

I really hate Apple and U2 right about now. Forcing us into this **** album, and giving us an *iTunes users only* headache.

I have had the exact same problem with the nag screen since downloading the U2 album. I vaguely recall some sort of download error when the album was downloaded, bit paid no real attention. If you look at the album song list, the digital booklet at the bottom is the problem. But, how do we cancel the "purchase"? Who needs it and why is it there? NO other album I can find on iTunes has one! Apple needs to allow us to disable this - or they should do it. Annoying! It also interrupts video streaming to Apple TV. A real problem when you have a group looking at a video.

Reply to all: never a pop up on new iPhone 6 plus ans I did download album. Original iPad mini 16 gig had problem. Did download album. Flailed around doing different things. Pop up stopped. Shotgun approach never helpful to others. Recently downloaded a set of specks for a community center remodel. Pop up back, but more time between hits. Now silent again. I posted earlier that I had deleated most of ipad content when update couldn't instal. I can't remember what all I did to try to get rid of a lot. Certainly have never done a restore. Community center is going to be very nice. Perhaps just leave everything alone for several days. (Ignore. Settle. Better battles elsewhere.)

Finally fixed the issue, albeit had to do a factory restore and then restore from cloud, took about 10 hours as I have a 128gig ipaf, with about 30+ gig of apps/data

I am thinking of suing fricken U2 and Apple for wasted bandwidth, electricity and mental aggravation/torment.

I hate U2 more than Gary Glitter, they are a disgusting, irrelevant, waste of oxygen.

And that album is utter rubbish they worst piece of crap they have ever done. The should beg for Eno to return as without him they are just a generic bunch of noise pollution.

I Have the same problem when my iphone 5 restarts (it crashes quite iften after ios8 update). I have no downloads pending on iTunes so this remains a mystery. I think there are iTunes Store /iCloud issues as well as carrier issues in the new ios causing these errors as well as the crashes. Any thought?

I've got the same issue with my iPhone 5. Really not liking it. I've tried to go into iTunes store account on my iMac and I saw I had 1 item that needed to be downloaded which was the U2 album booklet. I downloaded it to the computer, but I still get the popup every time I restart my iPhone. I don't even think restoring iPhone to factory settings and setting up as a new device would solve it either because it seems like it's definitely an iTunes Store issue. I'm sure the Apple engineers will see this post and get a fix for it. 😕

A full factory reset and restore either from cloud or iTunes works to fix this issue. I have done it and many others in this discussion have done it with success. It appears to be the only fix at this time.

So I found a fix that worked for me. I tried to post it here a few weeks ago but this stupid f****g iOS update has messed up my phone to the point that it freezes every time I back space and I lose everything I wrote so I gave up. Anyways I'm following this post and I get an email every time someone posts on this forum and after seeing so many people having to do a compleat reset on their phone, I decided to try and write this one more time. I've posted a fix on this forum in the past which ended up not working, after about two hours the pop up came back. I gave up on trying to fix it and just tried to ignore it after that happened but after I found myself looking at windows phones I decided to try fixing it one more time. Anyeays here's what I did. It's a vary simple fix.

The first step is the most important.

1. Use the USB cable to connect your phone to your computer and sync it to your iTunes. Simple right?

2. After you do that, go to your iTunes account page on your computer, scroll down, and look for the option to "reset all download warnings".

That's all you have to do. Two steps and it's fixed. The reason it's important to sync your phone is because, for me, there was no option to "rest all download warnings" with out the phone being synced. After I did that I restarted my phone and got one more pop up but this time it told me what my phone was trying to download. It was a digital booklet for a Kings of Leon album I bought on my phone through iTunes. I also went to that web page that apple made, people have posted the link above, and did that thing that took the U2 album off my iTunes store purchased page. I didn't buy or even want it anyways. I did that before I did the reset all download warnings thing. I don't know It that made a difference but it's worth doing it just in case. So I didn't have to download any digital booklets onto my computer and I didn't have to restore my phone. Try this before you do anything like a full restore.

It's been three or four weeks sense I did this fix and no pop ups. I hope it works for you. Good luck.

Thanks for posting. This fix did not work for myself. I went on a pc and had my iPad connected. Said I had 4 items to download. Extras and 2 movies I ordered years ago. I deleted everything and it still showed me 4 items ready to download. I have other movies I had bought and they are not showing up or causing issues. I hit two different reset buttons I saw. One when logged into my itunes account and the other when on my iPad sync page with all my content info.

These movies I bought were from 2-3 years ago so they have been in this download state since then. Nothing shows up on my iPad differently then before. I can see what movies I bought but nothing in limbo waiting to finish downloading.

I Did download the U2 album and removed it and checked to see if any other booklets were trying to download. None were shown since I removed them last time I tried doing the fixes on iTunes on a pc.

I Do not want to reset unless it is a last resort.

For reference i just bought a new iphone and treated it as brand new, no backups or restore done. I used my iTunes and iCloud accounts that I share with my iPad and no pop up. This ipad I bought during the Summer and never downloaded movies with it. Only my older ipad I sold the past spring. iOS 8 is when the pop up began. But not on my iPhone that was set up the same as this iPad? This is really a head scratcher. Please Apple come up with a fix in a future update. This pop up comes at random times, especially when taking my online classes, and it gets annoying as heck.

The "Reset all warnings" fix did not work for me as well. On my iPhone 6 Plus, I synced the phone to iTunes on my Mac, did BOTH of the "reset all warnings" buttons (one in the sync Summary section and the other in my Account page). Rebooted the phone and the "Unable to download item" message popped up just like always (with no additional information as to what it's trying to download). Tried doing this a couple more times just to make sure.

I was able to fix the problem by doing a backup / erase / restore in iTunes. However, the popup started appearing a couple of days later again and I have no idea why. I think it started appearing again after I downloaded a new App from the App Store. Something is triggering it when you download other stuff, but again, there's no additional information as to what it's trying to download on my phone.

I am hesitant to do another backup and restore since this did not permanently fix my problem anyway. I am hoping that an upcoming update will fix it for good. In the meantime, I did report the problem to Apple's bug tracker and hopefully that will get some attention.

Hi everyone. Same problem since downloading U2 album on iPhone 4S. Emailed Apple support and received a response directing me to this webpage -

iBooks: Syncing iTunes Digital Booklets to iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Following the instructions I had to drag the downloaded booklet into iBooks from iTunes on my MacBook as there wasn't an option to convert it to a book in the 'Get Info' tab, then I synced itunes with my phone and here it is. Fingers crossed! Needless to say you can tell that I only use iBooks for the kids!
