"Unable to download item. Please try again later. "

Hello. After updating to iOS8, whenever i turn off and power my phone, I receive a pop-up "Unable to download item. Please try again later. " at first I thought it was an app gone rogue but in the appstore I did not see anything suspicious. After resetting and restoring my device the pop-up kept appearing. By mistake I discovered that if I open the iBooks app the pop-up appears every time. I hace never bought or downloaded any book from here, ever. Did you encounter this error? do you have any suggestions for Me?

thanks

iPhone 5s, iOS 8

I've been having the same problem since update ios 8.0.2 and dowbloaded the free book "lost in sangri-la to ibooks. I've deleted it but it's still show there in the cloud. I also think its iBooks only because Ive since updated my grandson ipad 2 to 8.0.2 and his doesn't have the pop up. I think if I remove it from the cloud that might help. But first trying to get there to do that. It's freezes my iPad frequently and pop up a lot. its making me want to slam my iPad to smithereens.

I Downloaded 8.1 this morning and the pop up came back as usual. Still do not have the pop up on my iPhone 6+. So I decided to erase my iPad Air and reloaded a backup I did after the update. Seems to be fixed since. No pop up yet. Others have done various deletes and reinstalls with success. Well worth the trouble if you are tired of the unable to download item pop up.

My only other issue was with Safari-page loading issues, blank pages, long load times not related to Internet connection speed, video issues. With just a little bit of surfing since the update it seems much better. Page lag is gone. So 8.1 solved one issue I had, a reinstall fixed the other.

Hope the others who posted on this thread have fixed their issues too.

I started getting this again more and more after updating to 8.0.2 rather than just at phone restart when using 8.0.

I also again noticed my music library was suffering the red circle square of death which means that all but my iTunes store bought music will not sync properly with with my phone. Not wanting to resort to a factory reset, I decided to hunt around for a solution (to the red circle square problem) and came across this:-

This shows me how to completely remove the iTunes library from the phone when it is corrupt to the point where nothing you do will fix it and so that I can sync from scratch without doing a factory reset. It worked a treat, no more red circle square of death, AND (and the reason I am posting this here) no more unable to download dialogues.

I did also use the support page to hide the U2 album from my purchases as a precaution.

This popup is gone for me now in 8.1. I updated yesterday and rebooted the phone, and it still popped up except this time instead of a generic "can't download this item" message, it specifically referred to the U2 Songs of Innocence Booklet.

I then synced the booklet with iTunes, following some instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4194

After this was done I still didn't see the booklet in iBooks. However, the error message hasn't returned so far.

I have same issue since iOS8 Update on all of my Apple IOS devices. The only time I experienced was when streaming Watch ESPN.

I turned off iCloud Drive. "Settings - ICloud Drive - Off."

While Testing on IPhone 5S ICloud Drive Turned Off NO POP UP MESSAGE.🙂

Turned iCloud Drive back ON within 5 minutes into Streaming message "Unable to Download Try Again Later" pops up and stops the stream.

I'm hopeful this will be a permanent fix but I have not tested my other IOS devices yet.

Shame on Apple for a major software glitch that has driven many of us crazy!

I too get this, but on my iPad 4 only, after I updated to IOS 8.x and U2. Did 8.1 recently and did not fix. Note we DO NOT use icloud or sync this to a computer. APPLE are you listening? We shouldn't be dealing with this! You should! Three iOS updates and you still haven't fixed it? Your software managers should be ashamed! This is a serious, customer time sucking defect! This and the other iOS missteps make me seriously wonder if I should be canceling my iPhone 6 and 6 plus orders.

Note I don't have this on my iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2, although I did download the U2 album on it. There should be enough clues in this thread and the many others to be able to reproduce this defect.

I've had this ever since I tried downloading the stupid U2 album. Since, I've deleted it. I also signed into my iTunes on the computer and downloaded all pending downloads. I tried to figure out how to do the thing where I transfer the U2 booklet to iBook but couldn't figure it out. I'm sick of this error.

Funny, the Android I have doesn't have this error pop up everytime I power it on...

I was able to fix this by actually downloading my pending downloads in iTunes, resetting download info in iTunes, and restoring the device to factory settings. It was a pain to download all my apps via the App Store on the iPhone again, but I'm running iOS 8.1 and the issue has resolved. I can now restart my iPhone without that dreaded popup window.

For my iPad 2, the only way to stop this was to restore my iPad

It all came back from the backup as I expected, so no worries and i have not seen the popup since.

I had tried all the tricks with hiding the u2 album from itunes on device and pc, using the apple removal tool, making the booklet a pdf, none of them worked.

Thought 8.1 may have fixed it.

Still, the restore seems to have done the trick, so happy now.

If your brave, try this solution: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1786762&highlight=syncing+issues

It's actually fairly straight forward, but need to be careful to remove only the stuff indicated. It basically removes your iTunes library and sync data from the phone, so they are created from scratch, without any corruption. That combined with, hiding the U2 album so it is not downloaded again, fixed the issue for me, without resorting to a full reset.

So in summary:

2. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1786762&highlight=syncing+issues

"Unable to download item. Please try again later. "
