how can I delete a single message in iOS 8
iPhone 5, iOS 8
I recently upgraded to iOS 8.0.2 and, after touching and holding a message and tapping on More, the trash can appears on the bottom left corner.
SOLUTION / WORKAROUND.
The bug is present in the latest iOS 8.0.2 too. The workaround for deleting individual messages is:
0) Open Messsages
1) Open any conversation
2) Tap and hold any message, a Copy/More black bubble will show up
3) Tap More
4) Select messages to you want to delete. There should be a trashcan icon on the bottom, but there is not any.
5) Tap to "Text message" input filed on the bottom. A keyboard will come up.
6) Swipe your finger entirely down the screen to hide the keyboard. The trash will appear.
The trash icon is in the layer under the keyboard!
What worked for me was that I double clicked my home button, closed my message (and other apps I wanted to close) and then once I opened messages again to delete something, the trash can was back!
Didn't need to power off.
The missing trash icon bug is fixed in iOS 8.1 update.
to batflower: when you have the list of messages displayed (not one single message chosen): the reply of braden works perfectly...
to jam75: stop whining, contribute.
Thank you for this. My 4s randomly, as far as I can tell, has trash can and doesn't have trash can. Will try your steps, but it should be easier. Should just be there instead of camera. (I've got all updates.) Thanks again.
Now I'm using iPhone 5S with IOS 8.1 but facing same problem in deleting single or selected messages. Every time trash icon disappear then I have to restart message app.
This is a bug in IOS 8 and 8.1 and Apple did not address this issue yet.
Both my wife's 5S and my 5 had the same "no trash can" BUG at the same time today. This is one of SEVERAL bugs with IOS8 that has screwed up my 5 to the point I'm considering other manufacturers. Get back to the home screen, double-click the home button, swipe MESSAGES up to close it, then go back in to the message, hold my finger on the message until "More" bubble pops up, and now I finally see the trash-can that has always been there before this "not a bug" BUG occurred.
I can't even get the keyboard to appear reliably. The "Text Message" field appears but there is no keyboard available with which to enter any content in the field. Swiping down over the Text Message field doesn't do anything.
HOw to delete texts messages in ios 8:
1. tap twice the conversation bubble you want to delete.
2 options come up : Copy / more.
Select 'more'.
The options will close and the conversation bubble
Will have a check mark.
2. In the bottom of the screen, you will see:
Camera icon, the space bar( that says Imessage), and send.
tap the SPace Bar tTWIICE- it will bring out the keyboard without
(Without the space bar) . Swipe it back down.
to the bottom. at this point, you will see the Trash Bin
Icon , instead of the camera. Then just tap the
trash bin !
CHeck out my reply to Keseki, below your question box.
what you have to do is Press and hold the message in which you would like to delete, click "More"... then at the bottom where you 'text message', hold it down and the keyboard will pop up. drag the keyboard down to the bottom of the screen and the trash can should appear!
I cant understand why apple would make it so hard to delete a single message?!??? this annoyed me for so long until i just figured it out.
THANK YOU!!! You're my new hero :-)
I Finally got it to work on my iPhone 6. I had to turn the phone sideways and you can just barely see the top on the garbage can on the bottom left. Hit it and it works. Hope this helps
Thank you this is really odd. When is Apple going to fix this?
