Problems with Airplay in iOS 8?

Anybody else lost the ability to stream audio to a third party speaker or receiver since upgrading to iOS 8? I have an Airplay compatible Pioneer receiver that I used to stream music to from my iPhone 5S without issue. Since upgrading to iOS 8, it's no longer an option in Control Center. Using iTunes on my MacBook Air, it still works fine. The receiver pops right up as an Airplay option and the music streams as it should.

So, I know it's not a wifi issue or anything wrong with my Pioneer receiver. I've started seeing this same issue pop up on some third party support sites from users who've upgraded to iOS 8 but haven't seen anything here on the Apple forums yet.

Hoping I'm not alone ... any ideas?

Same issues, since ios8 my Apple TV randomly just powers itself off while playing. Once off you have to go find the remote and click anything to power it back up. If the device has powered off it completely disappears from all airplay lists. Putting iOS8 on the Apple TV was a huge mistake, I'll never upgrade the thing to a new OS again until a few patches have come out.

We have several devices that we've upgraded to IOS8. The iPad 3's and 4s iphone all seem to run the AirPlay protocol, with both the ATV and a third party speaker, but my iPhone 5s won't show any hint of AirPlay connectivity,. I've wasted hours mucking around with the stupid thing. This is obviously a bug that needs some attention from Apple! Very frustrating!

I've also been having AirPlay issues since the iOS 8 update. I have problems with both my Denon receiver and my Buick Bluetooth. I'll have songs play for a while with no problem but, usually when I go to choose a different song manually, I'll lose the AirPlay connection, and nothing will restore it without having to force quit my Music app as well as turning off and restarting my receiver. I was having no problems before iOS 8.

Not for me. I have a Pioneer VSX-1326K receiver. Followed your network reset advise. I even have a brand new AC router I switched to to ensure everything is reset on both the Apple device and the network side. Whether I use my Apple Extreme Dual Band router or the D-Link AC1900 router, it does the same thing to date - Airplay streams just fine for a minute or two and then cuts off completely.

This does not occur to my other household iPad or iPhone running iOS 7. I am not switching these at all.

Same here - I'm still having a problem with my Denon receiver via AirPlay AND my Buick Verano via Bluetooth. Same problem that you've all described - streams fine for a while and then stops completely. I've tried every reset, force quit, etc. At this point, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I chatted with Apple Support the other day and they basically just referred me to help knowledgebase documents (which didn't help)..

I'm HOPING that this is fixed with 8.1

Well, I updated my MacBook Pro to OS 10.10 last night. I'm happy to report that I am able to stream with no fail from the computer to the receiver with no stopping same as before.

Before that it was updated to the latest iTunes and whatever OS 10.9 update to support the release of iOS 8 on the same day. That day both the iPhone and MacBook Pro was updated, I was not able to stream to the receiver from both devices.

With the latest OS 10.10, streaming is fine once again to my Pioneer receiver. I am reporting this because I am hoping whatever AirPlay fix they did to 10.10 will hopefully have the same fix for iOS 8.1 on Monday.

So crossing my fingers and will definitely jump on the update on Monday. Will report back if this fixes it as well.

I had this working in 8.0.2 but it partially broke in 8.1. BUT! Only for MP3s!

I have a Denon AVR-X1000 and it worked fine in airplay in 8.0.2 but after upgrading to 8.1 I can only play songs bought on iTunes. They play fine but when the playlist skips to an MP3 or I try to select an MP3 the receiver drops its network connection and restarts it.

If the playlist has only iTunes-bought songs it works perfectly.

I've tried removing all music and resyncing it but no go.

I've also tried converting an MP3 to ACC but that still wont play.

I can play the songs on the phone or via bluetooth headsett with no problems and if I connect the phone to the receiver by cable (it has direct iPod/iPhone support) it can browse and play the songs without any trouble.

It seems that the last update changed the datastream or something as the receiver tries to play it but then just restarts or drops and reconnects the network connection.

So I have a VXS-1121 and my iOS 8.1 devices (iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 6 Plus) and they cannot connect via AirPlay - there is no AirPlay selector at all.

I have a iPhone 4 that is on iOS 7 (because it cannot be updated) and it can connect.

I have a MacBook Pro, Mid 2012 with Yos and iTunes 12.x and it can connect.
