IOS 8 won't sync music with itunes

After updating to IOS 8 on my Iphone 5, all of my music was removed. I tried resyncing it with Itunes - however once completed no new music has gone across.

Anyone know how to fix this??

So, I've been reading all of this up to page 15 for past several hours. Have the same issue, iPhone 6 plus, 128 GB, iOS 8.0.2, Mac OS X.

Finally got it to work. Don't know exactly what helped, but this is what I've done.

1) I've backed up the phone, and wiped it off, full reset.

2) Someone was explaining to clean the iTunes Music folder from all non-music and non-video files. Have done that and cleaned about 20 pdf, zip etc etc files.

3) I've set up my iPhone again from the existing backup (NOT NEW) using itunes

4) Synched ones with Sync Music unchecked. So synched everything but music.

5) Then checked "Sync Music" and it didn't work. It got stuck on step 1 of 6 which goes something like "waiting for..."

6) I've un-checked "sync music" and hit apply and let other things sync again.

7) I've checked "sync music" once more, and selected "selected playlists..." and in Playlists included "checked items for iPod", which is like 95% of my library anyway, and "my top rated", which is the only other playlist I really care about.

8) Then I synched and waited very patiently... and it worked.

Hope this helps.

Oh and I did make sure to complain to Apple via that link many others posted. We SHOULD NOT BE DEALING with this with so much money paid. This is a joke.

I'll try anything simple once. I turned off the "automatic downloads" of music in the iPhone 6 settings. Resynched it was set to "Manually Manage" as on. Turned off "Manually Manage" music in iTunes. Disconnected. Reconnected to re-synchronize. It ran through the "updating artwork" to the phone, did not make known changes to the songs in smart playlists, and sure enough, when I tried a playlist, it zipped through it.

So, sadly, no change for me either. I'll go back to my three-cycle kludge: Manually Manage on, Manually Manage off, Manually Manage on. Not quite as simple as "wax on, wax off".

Friendlyhorse I've spent the last several hours trying the different options that everyone has been suggesting. On my IPhone 6, not only was I not seeing the music that I had downloaded from CDs to my ITunes library, but music that I had just purchased on my phone would not sync to ITunes on my PC. It would look like the phone was trying to sync but nothing transferred. I stumbled on the same fix you did. I went to that top menu and clicked "music". The "Sync Music" option was unchecked so I checked it and synced my phone. Everything now appears to be where it should be and plays fine.

Will it keep working? I think for the time being I will not take any chances and not sync.

Update:

I was able to get my music on my iPhone 6 Plus(128GB) using the 'Manually manage music and videos' toggle suggestion.

I clicked the "Summary->Manually manage music and videos" toggle box and then unselected the "Music->Sync Music" box. I then synced the phone and let it finish. Once it completed all of my music was deleted from the phone. I then made a playlist called "Everything" which included my whole music library 10362 songs/48.34G worth. I then selected "Music->Sync Music", "Music->Selected Playlists, artists, albums, and genres" and made sure to click the new "Everything" playlist. I then clicked sync and let it finish. Note that I went to bed at this point and when I checked in the morning it had finished syncing. The interesting point is the "Everything" playlist on the phone shows up as 10298 songs/48.1G. Why did it not sync the 64 songs? 14 of the 64 that didn't sync were voice memos. I'm going to try to identify the 50 that didn't sync and determine what is special about those files.

I'm glad I found this thread and it is comforting to know that I am not the only one experiencing this issue (misery loves company).

I was having the same difficulty with my iPhone 4s (iOs 8) and my iTunes on my mac. I was able to solve the problem by reconfiguring how I manage my music on my iPhone. On the iTunes app, I opened the music tab under my iPhone. From there, I clicked "Sync Music," and then was able to check and uncheck whichever playlists, albums, artists, etc., that I wanted on my iPhone. Then I hit "Sync" at the bottom of the screen, and it is finally working. It's definitely not how I used to manually manage my music, but I hope it helps!

Edit:

This has been working, but I was only able to move about 100 files at a time, or 1/3 of them didn't move over.
