IOS 8 won't sync music with itunes

After updating to IOS 8 on my Iphone 5, all of my music was removed. I tried resyncing it with Itunes - however once completed no new music has gone across.

Anyone know how to fix this??

iPhone 5, iOS 8

at least we know we grabbed their attention !

They are listening!

BUT are they doing anything about it?????

Sometimes i get this bitter feeling that maybe for some hidden agenda it is not to apples best interest to solve this problem..( as missguided as that might be , wont be the first time )

Could that agenda be itunes match? or something along those lines? ...

Music sync worked just fine ... .. Why should ios 8 break this most basic of itune features! A feature that pretty much put Apple back on the map a decade ago !

TIm... Pay attention to software quality !!! Apple is not just beautiful, quality slim hardware!

It is equally about intuitive Rock Sold software !!

lets see when this post gets censored or removed !?

I have the same problem.... And i have to say, i've just had it with Itunes and Apple, i just bought the 5s 64gb and next time i'm switching to Android again, that was a no problem at all situation.

I just can't believe that all the solutions provided here include restoring the device. I mean, aren't we supposed to have an easier user experience after buying apple? I'm all the time getting the impression that all they want is to sell me more and more things, because for the songs i have bought on itunes store i had absolutely no problem, i even wanted to get rid of some of them and couldn't!!! But for my music, the music i have on my computer and always been able to sync with my phones, i have problems.

I wanted to manually add some tracks to my phone by dragging the files, as i always did, on my iphone 4 and a few times on this one, and the system seemed to be mocking me, it would let me drag but it would not copy the files into the iphone. I went and tried to sync all my library (and for some reason they make you erase all the files on your phone to copy all the files on the library... because that's the idea they had, brilliant), and to my surprise, all i have now on my phone are still the songs i bought, not one more, even though my library now has 311 songs, i can see, find and listen to from itunes (because that crap of the exclamation point is just what they tell you as an excuse, but i had an exclamation point next to a song i just added to my library and itunes could read because i could listen to it).

So now, i have like 40 songs on my phone, a few of them I DON'T want to have them, but... well. And all of the songs i actually wanted are on my itunes library but won't sync into my iphone.

I will not restore my phone, i don't want to waist any more time or energy on this matter. We need actual solutions, not comments from well intentioned users, what we need is for apple to stop selling and start to pay attention to the users they already have or they will lose them. As for me, they already lost me, i'm not buying any more music on itunes, or any other device from this brand. I actually bought a tablet a few months ago and stayed away from the ipad, just because i knew i would get a headache at some point.

Keep it up Apple!

After reliably failing, I have been having some success recently syncing.

I can't say conclusively what the difference has been, or if this streak will continue, but here's the latest details.

Wiped the phone and restored from backup.

I sync only checked music and certain playlists.

Phone restored as expected, synced apps then music.

Got an error, which I've received in the past that 7 songs could not be synced because of format problems. At least two of the songs are mono, not sure if that's an issue or not. Regardless, I've gotten the message in the past, clicked OK not to be notified in the future and continued synching. This time I unchecked all those songs so that they would not attempt to be synced ever.

I also restart iTunes before syncing and close all iPhone apps and power cycle the phone. Again, not sure if that makes any difference at all, but . . .

I've had five successful syncs since then. Each taking no more than 7 minutes to complete.

The other thing I noticed is that iTunes and my iPhone don't agree on how much space is available on the device.

Both say there's 114 GB on the device total.

The amount of music matched between iTunes and the iPhone.

There is 2.5 GB of OTHER space showing in iTunes, not sure what the iPhone has.

But iTunes says the device has 8 GB available. iPhone says it has 3 GB available.

Part of the issue may be iTunes trying to use more space that it thinks is available but the iPhone actually doesn't have to allocate.

If you are still having these issues, LISTEN UP!

I wrote to the office of Tim Cook. I got a response back from the office of Tim Cook. I am now working directly with that office in terms of getting these issues resolved. Apple has laid out a specific process for me that I need to follow, I have zero confidence that it will resolve my issues, but I need to go through that process if I want their support. The prevailing attitude is that this is my specific problem, not a general one on their end, and that they are offering to help me solve my problems. The general attitude that I am getting from Apple at this higher level within the organization is not pleasant, but it's better than getting no response whatsoever. So I'm in, and I am signing off these boards until I get through this process. Talk with you all on the other side.

I wrote to Tim Cook, Apple responded. Enough said.

I bought an iPhone 6 128, when they came out just to fit my 6,000 song library and have not been able to get everything to sync to date. I've spent hours on the phone with support with no success. It escalated to a supervisor who says he hadn't heard of this issue before, which I can't believe, and told him look at your community posts! Lots of people complaining. Anyway, it was frustrating trying the same things over and over with him on 4 different occasions totaling over 8 hours. He even transferred me to iMac support to try a few things. he thought issues may be resolved after iTunes update and I called him back after to tell him it didn't. Then I updated my 7 year old iMac to Yosemite and that just made me run out of space on it. He thought maybe the issues was my computer disk was full and I couldnt delete anything else. Anyway, I just got the Mac daddy of iMacs for Xmas yesterday (amazing), migrated iTunes library over, all excited to see if music sync would work, and NO music would sync. So annoyed that they aren't resolving this. I miss Steve.

Running OS X 10.6.8 (can't upgrade further), iTunes 11.4 (18) and iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.1.2. When connecting the iPhone to my MacBook by Lightning cable (or any other method for that matter), I cannot sync at all. If I change the content I want to sync (for example Sync Movies), I get the option to "Sync", but when I click the button it does nothing. No matter what I change, Sync does not work.

Unfortunately, the only solution I read about in these posts that works across the board is a full Restore. I feel like I'm running Windows XP....

Will let you know if this works.

My situation wasn't exactly the same as yours but it may help...mine involves syncing via an external HD (where my music is located) but for some reason iTunes wasn’t syncing all my music after I upgraded to an iphone 6. It would sync the music that was physically on my MAC but wouldn’t sync the music that was on my external HD even though the music could be played through iTunes with the external HD connected. I fixed the problem by taking a single music file that was on my external and put it on my MAC and then uploaded it to my iTunes library. This somehow “woke up” iTunes to locate the rest of my music files on my external HD.
Also try creating an entirely new playlist and then move all those songs from the original playlist (within iTunes) into the new playlist.
It's crazy that you have to do perfom unorthodox manipulating to get iTunes to do something so simple.

I was fortunate enough to have a response from Tim Cooks office after i wrote him and Phil directly.

They put me in contact with a special team for addressing this issue .

I am super impressed by the level of attention and hope it continues!

As far as my iPhone and iPad are concerned the sync problem is fully solved .

It was an issue of corrupt song list/ library after upgrading to ios 8.

Erasing all music on iPhone ( by going general/ usage/ manage storage and deleting all music ) and then resyncing fixes the library and so far i have had no more issues! And yes i have gone through many syncs after the fix and purchased many new songs... All works fine so far !

The only problem not fixed is the album cover mixup...

Apple admitted being aware of this problem and i was told a fix is on its way in an update soon.

I was also told that apple has a full team following all the threads at this foum... Which is very good to know.

Apple is listening !

Cheers and happy new year to you all.

Thanks for posting your update, that's great news. Can you please refresh my memory on your specific case - how many songs in your library; percentage purchased via iTunes versus ripped from CD or acquired from other sources; Mac vs. Windows; i-devices affected. That would be very helpful.

You are the ONLY poster that I have heard a positive response back on relative to escalating to Apple's leadership team and getting a response back. I have an initial call scheduled with similar resources next week, and I wasn't putting a lot of faith into them resolving my issues. I have erased all music from my devices then resynced with iTunes many, many times, that never solved the problem for me. Hopefully they've got some other ideas besides me fixing whatever they break that I finally fixed on my own without their help and iTunes, I am not looking forward to several weeks of re-setting up my iPhone again based on Apple trial and error.

Thanks again.
