I Have the same problem too. I have an ipad 2 updated to ios8 and the hdmi cable came up with the message"not supported with this device". My husband who has not udated can still use the cable with no issues. The cable is not an apple product but has in the past worked fine.

With much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I "downgraded" back to IOS 7 on my iPad2 today. Had to reintall EVERYTHING!!! but now the HDMI cable works again. Absolutely an IOS 8 bug. I WILL NOT upgrade either my or my wife's pad to IOS8 until I can be sure they have more of the bugs worked out. I don't want to go through this again EVER

I have iPad 2 it just happen to me right after I updated to IOS 8 but it has happen to me before in IOS 7. I have Sony TV to fix it I would shut the TV off unplug then plug the HDMI adapter back into the IPad then turn on the tv. It still has back screen then I would touch the screen for input then the picture is on . Sometimes I would have to do this couple times . I would go months without any problems then the message would show up then I would have to do the something over again. Do not know if it's the Sony TV or the IPad not communicating with each other. The HDMI adapter I have is from Apple.

iPad 3 and 3rd party adapter - worked OK prior to update now "accessory not supported".

Following hot on the heals of my 1 year old £1700 iMac developing a hardware fault - it's fair to say that Apple aren't my favourite company at the moment!

Dusted off my 4 year old £500 HP PC whilst it's repaired - not as pretty but at least it works.
