Hdmi adapter not working after upgrade to iOS8

I Had used an hdmi adapter to comment my iPad2 to my TV with great ease. After upgrading to IOS 8 I plugged it in as ususal, the screen popped up on the TV for a moment then the TV went blank and I got an error on the pad that said this device was not supported. HELP!!!!

By the way, my wife's iPad 3 with IOS 7 sill communicates through the HDMI cable to the TV

Of course you are right, Mark. I went to one of the Apple Stores in Sydney and the manager of the store hadn't heard of this swap and wouldn't do it. (That is understandable.)


I then bought an Apple one. It does work for YouTube and our ABC iView, but not for full screen SBS On Demand. SBS on Demand does work in full screen for my cousin, but she has iOS 7 or earlier. I know it doesn't work with our cable system Foxtel because they won't allow its use. I haven't tried any of the commercial stations because I don't care about them.


If I find out any further information that might be correct, I'll write another reply. I'm on hold for AppleCare right now.

I don't know if this is the exact same problem (I read some of the posts but not all in this thread), but we tried to stream a TV show (purchased in the iTunes store) from my iPad 2 to our Panasonic Viera TV last night. We were able to successfully do this previously, but we had problems last night. We used an off brand HDMI cord and an Apple HDMI adaptor. We could only get a flicker of the picture playing and no sound. We tried HDMI ports 3 and 4 and no luck. Then we hooked it up to our other Panasonic Viera TV (different model) and it worked fine... picture and sound. Since we knew we had successfully connected that first Panasonic Viera previously, we tried it again using HDMI port 2, and for whatever reason, it worked. I cannot begin to explain why one HDMI port would work and the others would not. I have the latest update 8.1.2 on my iPad 2. I hope this is relevant to your discussion here. Being in problem solving mode constantly with these iOS devices is getting old...

I Would like to throw my hat in the ring here. Part of our business has revolved around using a av 30 pin adapters to display video on TVs. We finally updated the ipad2 today and low and behold the video out stopped functioning correctly, only displaying half the video, or just black. after some digging I found this thread. So disappointed that this has been happening to people since September. Where is the bug fix and why hasn't it happened yet??? Perhaps it's by design.

You don't, Apple does not permit you to downgrade the ios.


When you upgraded you agreed to the terms that Apple was not responsible for any damages done to your device as a result of the upgrade and that you were responsible for the costs of any damages and repairs as a result (section 7.4-7.6 of the ios 8.1.3 Terms of Use).


The tablet I use for display work doesn't require the use of adapters. It has built in HDMI or uses wireless for smart displays without the need for additional devices.

I've just run into this problem for the first time today as well. In my case, I work for a school district that has spend hundreds of dollars on third party adapters (VGA and HDMI) for staff to use as needed, and all of them are now worthless because only the significantly more expensive official Apple brand adapters work since updating to iOS 8...


This seems like extortion to me, and the fact that it hasn't been fixed after almost 8 months and multiple additional updates tells me that Apple isn't interested in fixing it.

I have the same issue. I'm using an apple adaptor and IPad 2 and as soon as I updated to v8, it no longer worked. From the posts it appears that they are not looking to fix the problem. I've tried the various workarounds with no success. Hello Apple... I paid good money for your products, updated per your requirements, and would expect good faith resolutions in a timely fashion.

This issue appears to be affecting users who upgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 8, however, it doesn't appear to affect ALL users. This leads me to believe that there is likely some sort of update error that occurred during the installation of your device that is causing some software interactions to prevent the successful mirroring of your iOS displays to your TV using an AV Adapter that previously worked.


Therefore, the suggestion I wish to make is to complete a 3 step process of:


1) How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support

2) Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

3) Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support


Keep in mind, Step 2 is not just using the menu on your iOS device to "erase all content and settings." Although that puts your phone back to factory settings, we want to do more than that. If we use iTunes to complete the restore, then not only is the user data cleared, but the entire operating system software for the device. This get's downloaded by iTunes on the PC or Mac, and then a fresh install is completed on the device.


If this doesn't resolve the issue, and you purchased a Apple branded AV Adapter, then I would contact Apple Support of more assistance, informing them that you have completed the steps above.

Thanks for the tips but unfortunately going through the full backup, reset to factory settings and restore process didn't help me - my old Ipad2 still won't connect to the TV via the HDMI port since the update from ios7 to ios8 a few weeks ago.


I can't understand why this issue still hasn't been resolved by Apple after more than a year of posts such those on this thread. My next phone/mp3 player/tablet/TV will definitely not be an Apple product.

Having read some other posts elsewhere I think I know what the problem is - I bought the 30-pin to HDMI lead from Amazon so it probably wasn't an Apple own brand product. I suspect ios8 is programmed to check if the lead is an Apple own brand product and, if not, it won't work. Apple would no doubt claim is for safety reasons related to potential fires but I suspect it's more to do with forcing customers to buy their over-priced accessories.
