I am really tired of paying for stuff that companies claim they have some sort of ITIL compliance, or quality control and yet everytime they introduce a new version of something it breaks collateral peripherals and apps. This would get engineers FIRED and Companies sued with class action suits and government penalties in many sectors!!!, Appple either needs to get their act together or fall off the market, I have no interest in wasting my time which is billed to customers to compensate me for m professional time spent working on other issues for technology fixes and solutions. In having t perform downgrading/upgrading/fixing crap that apple publishes and is required for certain apps that they have not provided ample testing and Proof of Concept labs for we are commited to spend our personal time persuing fixes that should be compensated for as they have demonstrated a wreckless approach to consumer responsibility and are allowed to get awya with such wreckless behavior. This has spanned many IOS versions and cost the public more pain than joy. Apple either needs to get this fixed and follow a proper ITIL philosophy or needs to get out oof the business. I am all for free market, but at the rates they charge I woulld expect/ NAY demand better. Pay me for my losses or get your act together!!!

We also have this issue and are questioning our latest Apple laptop purchase for over $1000. Is it time to revert back to Dell? At least they would communicate with us. We try to contact them online and they just point us to local assistance as our iPad2 is well past warranty. Local assistance just wants to sell us a new Adapter. Everytime an new update correction is released, we load it in hopes this issue is resolved...very disappointing.

Off-brand cables have been known to cause fires in Apple IOS devices. IOS-8 ensures that only Apple cables and Apple-approved cables can be used.

hi mate. hope you're having a good day and happy holidays. a couple counter-points to your reply.

1) this issue is related to people that have the genuine apple adapter as well. it doesn't matter if it's third party or genuine with the video issue in 8.1.

2) off-brand cables causing fires is an extremely rare case. saying that have "have been known" to cause fires assumes that many of them have caused fires and it's a known issue. from the tens of millions third party accessories that have been sold, an almost immaterial number of them have caused any "fire" issue.

once again, happy holidays!

Same problem as everyone.

Using iPad 3 with:

- original 30 pin to HDMI adapter

- third party 30 pin to HDMI adapter

- original 30 pin to VGA adapter

They all worked before! Now, after iOS 8 updates, none of the solutions suggested work (btw, solutions suggested by customers; no Apple official feedback on the post yet!)

I believe that if Apple hasn't sorted it until now (3 months later), they are probably sabotaging customers. Any lawyers in the discussion to discuss a class action?

Same answer as for everyone:

Funny that you should mention "class action." That was the threat when the fires were taking place.

This reply is not very helpful for all of us who have bought an original Apple HDMI adapter and now only have an expensive piece of junk. Apple has not reached out to its customers and offered to exchange the adapter to version 2, and apparently Apple's supporters have not been informed that iOS 8 has dropped support of version 1 adapters.

What am I supposed to do? Fill Apple's coffers and buy a version 2 adapter that they may at any time drop support for again if a version 3 is issued?

Hi, I like all of us am really annoyed that Apple's iOS 8 has removed what was a really useful function. I for the record had a third party HDMI cable which worked perfectly with IOS 7. I totally reject the nonsense that non Apple HDMI cables could cause fire, they carry negligible levels of current. This problem may be true of the power plugs. I also reject the thought that Apple made this change on purpose, I subscribe to the idea that this was the unintended result of some other change. I too however are furious that ios 8 updates have not fixed it. Many of the initial problems that ios 8 brought have been fixed, although it still uses too much memory. I would love to revert to IOS 7, but alas it is too late. The IOS 8 debarcle has made me think twice about purchasing more Apple products and I am am still holding off buying a new iMac. I thought about buying a new Apple HDMI, cabe, but as I now own a mixture of 30 pin and new lighting iPads and IPhones, I would require two. So I have bought an Apple TV. Whilst it's use as a TV is poor, it's ability to access so much through its Air Play function is great, this includes our family's; Macs, iPhones, iPads and my old Windows PC. The cost is only slightly more than buying the two cables I would have required and the solution is much better in that it is cableless. Whilst I am still annoyed at the unneccessary loss of this function and the appalling initial performance of iOS 8, I quite like the Apple TV as a multi platorm connectivity solution.

I just got off the phone with AppleCare support, senior advisor. The HDMI does not work with the non-Apple product. According to someone it has to do with the fact that before when cables were causing iPhones to flame up, the cables were third party, so iOS 8 checks whether it's an Apple cable and when not, it doesn't allow the connection.

GOOD NEWS. The advisor told me that she was just advised that if I take my 3rd party adapter to Apple, they will replace it for the Apple product for free. I haven't been yet, but that's what they say.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE.
