Hoping this helps everyone here....
I spent a full day researching everything I could, burning Google up.
Mine is now fixed and I can watch the NBC CBS ABC apps again and not have to fight the stutter and delay those apps have with AirPlay-mirror.
I still use Airplay with apps that support it without having to use the mirror function, so I can be wireless sometimes.
Back to the cable fix:
Here is what I found.
-----------------------------
There are "firmware" chips in the A/V cables. Both the generic and the official Apple cables. Older cables, again both generic and Apple worked with iOS lower than 8.0.
However,,, when Apple rolled out iOS 8.xx, the new iOS no longer was compatible with the firmware in the older cables... Regardless whether they are genetic or Apple. That is why we have seen mixed reports of which cables work, and which do not.
IF you were fortunate enough to purchase a cable, generic or Apple with the newer firmware, then your cable works with iOS 8.x.
IF you were unfortunate (like me) your older cable quit working after you upgraded to ios 8.x.
When your older cable stopped working, you likely got error 3194, "this device is not supported...etc"
Here is the fix
-------------------
IF you buy a new cable, generic or Apple,, BE SURE to it has the new firmware chipsets that are compatible with iOS 8.x
I purchased a new cable at the Apple Store tonight. I told the guy that I wanted a GUARANTEE that the cable would work with the new iOS. He assured me it would. So, I brought the Apple adapter (part# MD098ZM/A) home. I connected it to my iPad-2, then used my old BestBuy HDMI cable and attached to HDMI port on my TV. SUCCESS!!!!!
SO,,, my guess is that if you buy a generic cable with the new firmware that it will work. Likewise, if you buy the official Apple cable with new firmware, that it will work.
Conclusion, this is an incompatibility problem between the firmware in the cable and the new iOS. This is true regardless of generic or Apple cable.
Will Apple apply a fix to make older cables work?? Perhaps, but unlikely. They make money selling new adapters and forcing generic manufacturers pay license fees to use the new firmware.
SO, bite the bullet and get yourself a cable with the new firmware. For me, it is worth the $30, as I have long ago cut the cord to the cable company!
Good luck to you all, and I hope this is helpful to you.
