Wait a minute. You're blaming Apple because you want to use a cheaper cable/adapter and expect Apple to make sure that it works? It's up to the manufacturers of those cheapies to conform to Apple's requirements, not Apple. From what I'm reading, Apple's adapter/cable works just fine with 8.1. That's all Apple needs to do. You love Apple, but apparently not enough to buy their products. I've purchased some third party cables and chargers, etc., too, but if they quit working because of an upgrade or change by Apple, I certainly can't blame Apple. I've also found that all my Apple cables, etc. continue to work and work and work and work.....

yes but when u buy a tv or free view box u can be sure all hdmi cables will work fine even if u have a do update on your unit ,Apple are a greedy company there just won't to be sure you buy there exspensive cables and and teach u a lesson for not buying there xspensive products .i glad people on here are having a moan as I'm in the same boat as many others who fill ripped off by there update which by the way is another way too force people with older products of there's too upgrade top the bender phones lol no way for me apple gone down hill since Steve died ,my iPad 3 runs like a slug now .

I think the point is that everything worked ok until Apple brought out the new OS and what people are upset about is that they think it's deliberate. Anyway all I want to know is a definate fix, so that apart are you saying that you can mirror your iPad on the TV using the new OS and an original Apple cable? Would appreciate it if you could let me know. To be fair there seems to be some confusion. Thank you.

YEs,i do blame apple and hate, hate hate the new ios! Hdmi cable worked perfectly before the update! And on top of that i have other problems with both my ipad 4 and ipad 2. they work like two slugs( the slower and a little fatser slug) ..have problems with skype, some other apps and battery life on ipad 2. And i was so happy with both of them before the update, which i think its not fair,at list we should've been warned that new update MAY not work as well with older models

The arrogant attitude of Apple is the problem. I didn't buy the cheapest cable and it was working perfectly well before the upgrade. i doubt that the Apple cable/adapter warrants 4 times the price of a quality product from another company.

Was this a deliberate ploy on the part of Apple to exploit their existing customers and force them into buying an vastly overpriced product???????

What ever happened to "customer care" and service? I think we're all going to have to bite the bullet and pay the price of being an Apple customer because they're obviously not going to do anything to provide customer satisfaction!!!!!!!!!!!

Jolieteddie, you do have a point, Apple can't be expected to maintain compatibility with every piece of 3rd party hardware out there. However, on the face of it this does appear like a deliberate attempt to lock people into proprietary, overpriced Apple products.

I believe this is a short-sighted and counter productive move, as people will vote with their feet - Apple should be opening up their platforms to encourage wider adoption, not trying to squeeze every last drop from its customers.

What next - a Mac OS update that only supports Apple external disk drives?? - it's a slippery slope my friend.

I'm not convinced by any of this "Apple ought to allow us to buy cheaper peripherals because Apple is a company that cares about us." I've been using computers since 1983 or so. Always had "IBM compatible" units, not real IBMs. It sure seemed like getting different manufacturers equipment to work with my several difference computers over 30+ years was a lot easier and cheaper than had I gone with Apple. Apple still resists allowing other companies to build "Mac Compatibles." So if Apple is reining in users to stick with their technology to run iOS, it's nothing new. Why should they design their stuff so that other manufacturers can sell you "compatible" stuff cheaper? Apple does't do that with their main machines and in doing so maintains a high level of quality. AND at the same time, I've watched as upgrades to the Mac system software has left users behind regularly. It's all about selling stuff.
