uninstall quicktime 7.1.3

I installed recently Quicktime 7.1.3 and now a program called KidPix I use with my kids all the time no longer shows stickers images. According to the KidPix support website it is because of this upgrade. Can I go back to 7.1.2? (Since the 7.1.2 quicktime installer refuses to go back to the older version)
Thank you for your help

This is from the Flip4Mac forums where many discussions about the 7.1.3 QT upgrade have broken the use of Flip4Mac. It's not your exact problem, but it does help you go backwards with QT to a version that you know does work. Read the caveat at the bottom about breaking iTunes 7 though.

From user jbe:
I found that you can backtrack to QT 7.1.2 which fixes the problem. This is how I did it.

Goto:

http://www.apple.com/downloads...ime701reinstaller.html

and download the QuickTime 7.0.1 ReInstaller (21mb) and run it. I had no problem running the reinstaller, I just double clicked it (it dose require restarting). The ".ASF" playback then works. I then went to:

http://www.apple.com/support/d...uicktime712formac.html

and download the QuickTime 7.1.2 Updater (49.1mb) and run it. " .ASF " playback still works.

IT DOSE HOWEVER BREAK iTunes 7. YOUR CHOICE

I SHOUD HAVE SAID IT BREAKS iTunes 7 TV SHOW AND MOVIE PLAYBACK. Music seems to playback fine.

I get an error of "Your computer does not have the hardware required to run this software" when trying to use the Quicktime 7.0.1 Reinstaller. I take it is an intel issue.

So how does one downgrade to 7.1.2 on a MacBook Pro?!!

This "upgrade" is affecting a live performance application I have been using without any troubles for several months, until now. These are payed gigs I am unable to do properly until I solve this matter... please help!

Sorry for the problems. Here is another link to an earlier version. Try the first one to go back to 7.0.4 and then if you want to try to upgrade to 7.1.2 to see if that helps. If 7.0.4 works I might would stay with it until you get you jobs done and have time to figure out if 7.1.2 works. Next time you do a software update, uncheck the Quicktime update until you know that the update will work with what you are doing. Hope this helps.

That's really odd. Have you tried verifying and repairing your disk permissions? Go go your Utilities Folder located inside your Applications Folder. Open the "Disk Utility" program. Select your hard drive in the window on the left and then click the "Verify Disk Permissions" button. When that is done run the "Repair Disk Permissions". See if that helps any. I usually do this first anytime I have a problem. Also for the person with the Kid Pix problem. Have you contacted the support from the company that makes it. Maybe they have an idea of what's going on.

I am the person with the Kid Pix problem, here is what they say in their support section, although it is in the Windows section, I am assuming it is the same on OSX too (since this problem happened right after I installed 7.1.3):

When attempting to add a sticker or animation to a project in Kid Pix Deluxe 4, the handles for the object show in the workspace, but the sticker or animation does not appear. Updating to Apple® Quicktime 7.1.3 can cause this behavior. Uninstalling version Quicktime® 7.1.3 and reinstalling Quicktime® 6.5 will resolve this behavior.

I had 7.1.2 before and it used to work.

I am also the one with the reinstall problem. I ran the disk permissions as you said but I still get the same message when I try to run the 7.0.1 reinstaller (does not contain an appropriate version of QT) Does this reinstaller require 7.0.3?
Thanks for your help

You might be able to re-install off of the disc that came with your computer.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301468

There is also a $20 app that's called Pacafist that will let you have more control over the installer packages (which reside in your Home folder/Library/Receipts).
I'm sure you don't want to have to pay the $20, but I'm not sure of an easier way unless Apple releases a program to revert to 7.1.2

One person did may the comment that a power failure or something of that sort might have caused a problem because it went out when he was updating. It's possible that somehow the update became corrupt if something like that happened to you. Just a thought.

Just to chime in:
After updating I had some trouble with a Quicktime export plugin I use so I tried to reinstall Quicktime 7.0.1.
I'm on an Intel Mac Pro. When I ran the reinstall and restarted my system was all screwed up. Finder, Quicktime and Final Cut Pro wouldn't start and Mail wouldn't quit.
I had to run Software Update and reinstall Quicktime 7.1.3.
I also recommend reinstalling from your original disc if the reinstaller doesn't work for you.

I haven't had any luck uninstalling 7.1.3, either. I updated QuickTime a few days ago and didn't realize until last night that it won't let me open any of my own QT files. I get the message that certain files are missing and I'm directed to this website: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html

There are thirteen "components" listed there, but I see none that addresses my problem with QT. I hope someone discovers a way to uninstall this monster soon!

Hi Dominique

Kid Pix will work with Quicktime 7.1.3 but you need to enable QT to show flash animations. According to MacKiev...

Background: In Apple Computer's latest edition of QuickTime, version 7.1.3, the ability to play flash movies is turned off by default. (In all previous editions of QuickTime, there was no option to turn Flash off so it was always on). Since Kid Pix animations and stickers are made in Flash they appear as blank boxes when added to a picture.

Workaround: You can enable Flash on the QuickTime pane of System Preferences:
1. Open System Preferences by selecting System Preferences from the Apple menu
2. Click the QuickTime icon and switch to the Advanced pane in the window that appears
3. Select the Enable Flash checkbox and close System Preferences
4. Launch Kid Pix (or relaunch Kid Pix if it is running).

Once you enable Flash to play in QuickTime, Kid Pix animation and stickers will appear again.

It worked for me, so good luck

Chas
