iOS8 Keyboard shortcuts are not syncing between devices

Hello,

I have an iPhone 5c and an iPad Air which had a lot of keyboard shortcuts ("omw" style), using iOS7.

So, I've upgraded both to iOS8 at the same time yesterday. I have also upgraded my iCloud to the new iCloud Drive when got asked.

When they returned from the upgrade, I've realized the keyboard shortcuts were deleted - the list wasn't even with the "omw" default shortcut, it was completely empty.

Resigned with the situation (the upgrade deleted everything!), I've started creating the shortcuts again on the iPad, but now I've noticed that they are not syncing with the iPhone. iPhone list is empty and iPad list has a bunch of shortcuts.

Everything is up and running with the iCloud in the menu of both devices and there isn't the old option of "Documents and Data" anymore, which I believe was the responsible for these kind of settings synchronization between devices.

Anyone with this issue? How to fix it?

Regards,

Caio.

Thanks newsboysgrl777 your solution worked for me, as soon as I toggled Predictive Text on my iPhone "OFF and ON" again my shortcuts started syncing between my iPhone (iOS8) and my Mac (Yosemite). Unlike your suggestion I did turn it back on after a minute and it is still syncing between both devices.

I have tried so many solutions in the past including deleting all my shortcuts and starting again but this is the only thing that has worked so far.

🙂😁😀

This is due to the problem with the sync of iCloud dictionaries after update to iCloud Drive.

Shortcuts can also reappear after deletion, see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6656922

Here is the fix for repairing shortcuts syncing. Works if you already have updated to iCloud Drive.

WARNING, this command will force remove all user dictionaries from iCloud!!!

  • In terminal run:rm -rf ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/com~apple~TextInput/Dictionaries
  • Restart one of your devices (iPhone or iPad)
  • Everything from your device should now upload to iCloud
  • Remove recurring or unwanted entries

All changes should now sync to all your devices (iPad, iPhone and Mac)

Thanks for the info! Was getting VERY FRUSTRATED with the loss of keyboard shortcuts. IOS devices now show shortcut again — and they are syncing between IOS devices (iPhone 6+, iPad Air, iPhone 5s etc) — all IOS 8.4.1

HOWEVER, still cannot get keyboard shortcuts to sync from IOS to OS X (Yosemite 10.10.4). Any ideas / all help would be most appreciated!

Shortcut problems ... Workaround ... iOS 8.4 ...

iOS 8.4 .. IPad Air .. Keyboard shortcuts do not work after any reboot. Waiting an hour or two does not help.

Workaround:

ADD or DELETE or UPDATE any shortcut on iPad: All shortcuts now work A-Okay!

This workaround must be done after any reboot, but it only takes me about 10 seconds to do it.

Hey all frustrated users, try this:

I was trying to setup a new iP6s following some solutions suggested on this forum with no success...
(as I recall when I got my MbP2014, all the shortcuts from my iP4s were transferred automatically, hence landed here after a quick search)

Solution:

  1. enable Apple ID AND iMessage on all devices you want shortcuts enabled (make sure iMessage is synchronized across these devices)
  2. use the shortcut on one device that has all your shortcuts
  3. voila, your shortcuts are now automatically "transferred"!
