I updated to IOS 8 and I got to the point where it says installing configuration from (null). At that point, it states "Profile Installation failed the scep server returned an invalid response". I tried resetting but nothing has changed.

It is an iPad provided by my school.
We are also seeing this error where I work. I have had two phones fail with this error when upgrading to iOS 8. We are using Airwatch for MDM, not sure if that is related.
Was able to get one of them working again by restoring an iCloud backup to a 4S running 7.1, creating a new backup, and restoring that to the iOS 8 5S.
So, can confirm after three devices that restoring the latest iCloud backup to a iPhone 4S running iOS 7.1.2, making a new backup on the 4S and then restoring that new backup to the iOS 8 device fixes this error. After it is done, you will have to go to your IT department to have the MDM profile put back on.
How did you restore an iCloud backup to a device running older OS?
I'm unable without upgrading to latest OS (and the doc mentions the same - iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud)
