Was the built in Nike Plus app removed from the iPhone 6?

I had the iPhone 5s with iOS 8 and used the built in Nike Plus app but now that I just purchased the iPhone 6 the built in app is gone. Does anyone know if this was something removed completely.

just found this thread, also use nike + iPod at the gym and have done for a number of years with various different iphones... Applecare suggests logging this with the feedback dept. if enough people complain they will need to look at it... With the health app I'm sure the ides is more functionality not less?! www.apple.com/feedback/

The footpad was designed for devices that didn't have accelerometers built in. Since it's possible to get the same information without it, I don't think it's completely accurate to say that functionality has been removed. And, as I understand it, it's Nike that has discontinued the support. There are others out there though. Polar makes a BT food pod that you can use with the Polar app. It also works with other apps such as Wahoo and Runmeter. And, as it fastens to the shoe's laces, it doesn't require a special shoe (or additional device to attach to the shoe). I believe Addias also makes one which can be used with their app.

I'm disappointed that the Nike + app is not included in the iPhone 6 as well.

If it helps anyone, here's a link to how to use the Nike GPS running app indoors: http://support-en-us.nikeplus.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/36324/p/3169,3575

I hope Nike gets enough pressure to bring that iPod app back.

For those who run indoors and don't feel like tempting fate on a treadmill with a sweaty iPhone 6 plus in your hand, I've found the Nike sport watches to be very helpful. They both use the foot pod.

You don't need to hold the phone in your hand on the treadmill. You can keep it in your pocket or use an arm band. The Nike Running app even has settings that optimize it for armband use.

I was responding to what the Nike + Support website put on their website:

Carry your mobile device in your hand, which will ensure that your motion is captured.

  • If you carry your device in a pocket or armband, your motion may not be fully captured.
  • If you place your device in the treadmill tray or cupholder, your motion will not be captured.

I've always used the iPod app while on a treadmill so I don't have that much experience with the Nike GPS app on a treadmill.

I'm a bit clumsy. I need to use wireless headphones on a treadmill due to my arm occasionally creating physics experiments with launching wired earbuds and phone sailing off a treadmill track. 🙂

Very odd that there should be specific settings in the app and they don't mention it. As I recall, the settings were added in one of the more recent updates. Perhaps Nike's documentation is out of date? It certainly seems to work well enough with an armband. And, as I recall, you can calibrate it to the treadmill distance at the end if you like.

I know the feeling! I've got a talent for hitting the emergency stop switch by accident.

This is really disappointing. The Nike + iPod App was one of the first things I looked for on my new phone because I use it almost daily on the treadmill. There's no way I'm going to carry my iPhone in my hand or in a sweaty armband when I'm running indoors. I also recently bought a new sensor and have been buying the Nike + shoes because I liked having a sensor pocket. They need to bring this back.

I agree - the Nike +iPod App was something I use daily and I love it....I have been using the Nike gps app but where I run has low gps signal and so I get woefully inaccurate measures of my runs! I am so upset that Apple and Nike have made me "upgrade" to a product that is LESS functional for something I enjoyed using every day. Bring the sensor app back!!!!

Yes but the only app that will use the small Nike sensor that goes in your shoe was the built in nike+ app. That's what we all need otherwise it was a wasted 20 dollars on that sensor. The pedometer is built into the health app but I don't like holding my phone while running.

Yes, it seems our Nike sensor is currently unusable. Perhaps Nike will add that functionality to their running app, but yes, they've already said they've ended support for Nike+ipod. I don't mind carrying my phone on outdoor runs, but very much prefer not to hold my phone when I run on a treadmill. Here's hoping Nike will step up and make the Nike Sensor useful again.

I still have the iPhone 5S and I'm glad I do now! Losing years of stored runs would be very depressing!

So, now that I was just about to order a new sensor, does that also mean any future sensors will be "old" stock?? Most of my sensors have lasted well over a year, maybe even closer to two! I only had one dud which died in under three months and the Apple Store replaced it for me

Also, using the new iPhone 6 GPS app, does that use data on the iPhone?

i also got myself iphone 6+ and the nike+ ipod cant not be found 😟

I still have my iphone 5s -iso 8 installed on it- and it is working there!

Apple! pls reactivate/create nike+ ipod app since it is very useful for people who run indoor (e.g. i am in Dubai, hot climate) or it is handy for frequent travelers who use the gym..

thanks for your consideration
