iCloud Drive upgrade continuously updating in Settings

I have an iPhone 5S and updated to iOS8 yesterday. During the iOS8 setup, I clicked Yes to enable the new iCloud Drive (even though I saw many warnings not to). However, now that my phone has successfully updated to iOS8, when I click in Settings>iCloud, I see a continuous spinning wheel and "Updating" next to iCloud Drive. The update for iCloud Drive has never been completed.

Things I have tried to address this issue:

1) soft reset (holding power button and home button simultaneously).

2) completely erase and restore my phone from an iCloud Backup - when I went through iOS8 setup again, this time I selected No to enabling iCloud Drive. However, once iOS8 was all setup again, Settings>iCloud still showed my iCloud Drive as continuously "updating."

How can I get out of this eternal updating and have iCloud Drive enabled? Is this a symptom of Yosemite's not being released? That is, does everyone who updated to iCloud Drive currently suffer from this same issue? Is there an easy fix that I am overlooking?

Thank you!

Thanks for all the info. Unfortunately for me, it all came too late. I got my iPad in late August (2014), turned it on and right away I installed iOS 8 (didn't know about the "Not Now" thing. Then I tried to sync up my photos from an iCloud BU I had made from an iPhone 4 (had to give it back to the person who loaned it to me 2 years ago–geesh). Right away had problems with missing photos and the my stream not working. Also had problems getting all the iTunes music I've purchased over the years. Also lost quite a few VERY IMPORTANT notes. Went to see a genius at the bar and a few things got fixed, but not all, especially the photos. The genius told me the iCloud only keeps track of up to 1000 pics and only for the last 3 months, but that they were changing this soon and I'd be able to get them all from the iCloud BU I made of the iPhone 4. I get a new MacBook, then when the OS X update came out I upgraded. Now there's iCloud Drive. I'm so confused!

Now to the current issue... trying to sync songs, I try upgrading the iPad to iCloud Drive, then get that error with the iCloud upgrade spinning out of control. I tried the fix. When it says "delete" it says it will remove ALL photos from the iPad. Not that big of a deal for me since they're on the cloud (I hope). It did give me the option of keeping the other data on my device after clicking the photo message. I opted to keep it. All of a sudden I have NO notes. I must have done something wrong I'm sure. The only reason I'm doing any of this is I'm getting an error trying to sync music saying "x items could not be synced" and that I've no more storage room on the iPad. iTunes says I've got 7 GBs space available. A whole separate issue apparently.

I'm pretty sure I've mucked it all up, but boy do I appreciate LadyBug's tips. Thanks! It really did help with the one problem.

Anyone else out there who may shed light on my other issues? I'd love to hear suggestions. I'm leaning towards a reset or erase at this point.

Hi,

I have repeated the process which you have mentioned almost 3-4 times, but still no success. Contacted apple support, after lot of different attempts, they asked me to take a fresh backup in itunes and factory reset the phone and then restore using itunes.. which i have done now, but after spending almost 2 hours on this mission of resetting the phone, the problem of icloud drive "upgrading" is still there ... please HELP please HELP ...
