Iphone 6 iOS 8: Randomly makes noise (tri-tone). No new messages, notification, and when on vibrate mode (randomly vibrates instead of tri-tone) ect...

I have the random tritone, which seems to be a bug, but today I suddenly had no notification sounds, no key clicks, no nothing. I couldn't hear music. Siri stopped talking.

The answer: My Bluetooth earpiece, which was in my backpack, somehow was switched on.

I have the same problem. The alert even comes through at night when my phone is in the "do not disturb" mode. The difference I have is that the sound is not tri tone, it's the "update". My version is IOS 8.4.1

Add me to the list of users with this issue.

I have checked every app setting and more. Tri-tone or buzz 10 to 20 times a day with no known reason.

I made sure thta any sound used for notifications as not tri-tone so I could find out which app was causing the issue. No luck :-(

There is a reason, you just haven't found the app that is doing it. All alerts originate in an app. Usually if you look at the device immediately after hearing the alert it will display whatever message triggered the notification.

The whole point of my post was exactly the same as many other users in this thread complaining of the issue. NO visual notification is displayed and as I stated, I have done deep detective work and still no luck.

I will however add that, immediately after posting, I remembered that I had taken one of my iPads up to iOS 9.0 beta and I'm wondering if other users may have also upgraded one of their devices to recent or past betas. I am going to downgrade my iPad and see.

I don't really want to read all of the posts in this thread (there are many), but I think I found the culprit: any email that was marked as VIP had the sound on (but no notifications), even though each of my email accounts individually did not. It would be nice if apps couldn't make sounds if notifications/banners are turned off; it's seriously confusing.

I Have also found the past fee days that everytime i write happy birthday on someones facebook wall, the sound comesmthroguh my phone right after i post. Its really weird

Larry Finch answered my issue, it ended up being an app that was set to sound only notifications, thats why no visual notifications were displayed. (The app was Masters app)

I'm afraid that this is not making progress troubleshooting. None of this works, actually. I Have always had everything on my phone silent except for ring. I am have been meticulous about this as my job demands very little disturba throughout the day and evening, and I don't like being alerted for every little thing. I am not on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media, so those apps aren't even on my phone. Still, I get random tritones at any time of day or night for no apparent reason. So, with all alerts on off, no push notifications and no social media, I can't find the reason for it. Wish Apple would fix it assp!

The tone just started on my phone. I believe you are correct. I just recently added an email that does not receive much mail. This now makes perfect sense. Thank you. I will check my settings.

It is a notification for new email.. change it in ur settings

Its 2017 already and i have the latest iOs but still i heard this monotone ring suddenly...and no notification allert...it's just bothersome

It will continue to bother you until you identify the app that is doing it.
