iPhone 6 dropping WiFi constantly

Got my iPhone 6 today and it keeps dropping my WiFi signal in my house and I cannot reconnect. When toggling WiFi off and back on it doesn't even pick any network in range, and there are usually 4-6 available. I have to power off the phone and power back on for it to pick up the WiFi signal again.

Very annoying. I hope this is a bug with iOS 8 that can be fixed ASAP and that it's not a hardware issue.

Anyone else having this problem?

I don't know what to make of this problem now.... I received and activated my 6 on 9-19 and almost immediately had Wi-Fi connectivity (but not speed) problems. I posted here with the details. (Basically started dropping my network and refused to reconnect.) I was about to return the phone, but after doing the router & phone reboot several times over several days, the problem just STOPPED.

It has not happened again since the first several days - yet I made no changes! Not to my router nor to the iOS. The only phone setting I altered was turning WiFi Networking Off, so maybe that was the culprit! Or maybe Siri fixed the problem when she knew she's be abandoned if it persisted.

BTW, still running 8.0 (12A365) as I am afraid to upgrade to 8.0.2 now that everything is working great!

My phone has done the "unable to search for networks" twice- one in a coffee shop and once today at home. I've already switched off wireless networking so it can't be anything to do with that for me. I have cell reception issues compared with iPhone 4 s on iOS 7 and other slow connecting to wifi issues on top of this odd unable to search problem.

No permanent solution yet, but the next software update may address this. In the meantime, I've found that the more you reset the network settings, the more stable the system becomes and the less likely to drop the wifi signal. Once you've reset network settings 5 to 10 times after losing wifi, it seems to happen much less often thereafter.

Just a quick snapshot of my chain of events. I’m currently on my fourth iPhone 6 Plus 64GB here in London, UK. Every time I have spoken to AppleCare and told them that I have gone through all the Wi-Fi troubleshooting methods possible they have asked me to get a brand new retail replacement as I’m within my 14 day return period. I’ve been experiencing the following issues:

  1. Wi-Fi disconnects and switches to 4G (Restart required for temp fix)
  2. Wi-Fi is still active but there is no traffic or activity– often when in sleep mode for long periods of time. (Toggle Wi-Fi on/off for temp fix)
  3. Wi-Fi disconnects and cannot find any networks (restart required for temp fix)
  4. This has been occurring on both iOS 8 and 8.0.2
  5. The issues are the same on both my 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks
  6. This is affecting my ip6+ and 5s (5s used to work perfect on ios7 on same networks) – My MBP-R and all other devices run perfectly on my network.

I spoke to AppleCare again yesterday and asked for their advice as its now my fourth iPhone in just under a month. This time they said that apple were fully aware of the Wi-Fi problem and that new repair tickets were not being raised for their engineers as they are already working hard to get this resolved. They also said they could see all the issues raised on the apple discussions boards which they usually don’t admit too! I asked what to do next and the advisor apologised and said this is clearly a software glitch and will be resolved in the next update. I asked for a timescale but unfortunately none was given.

As stated above I have tried all the troubleshooting methods discussed on forums and on tech websites but the only thing that gives me a stable connection without any disconnects (especially on my 6 plus) is turning cellular/mobile data off when I know I’m going to be on Wi-Fi for a sustained period of time (e.g. at home or work). I appreciate this is annoying but it’s the best temp fix until an update comes out.

Hope it helps everyone who is having issues with their devices that have cellular functionality.

Any comments welcome

Apple also told me that they believe this is a software issue that they "hope" to solve with the release of iOS8.1. However, it isn't completely clear that they have the solution yet. I'm now on my third brand new iPhone 6 and each one has exactly the same wifi (dropping with the inability to scan and dropping while sleeping) issues. I have noticed that repeatedly resetting the Network settings (not resetting all settings) eventually helps. Once I have done this a dozen or so times, the interval between wifi service losses tends to get much longer. After MANY Network resets, there are still multiple incidences of wifi loss, and sometimes after fairly short intervals, but the improvement is dramatic. My 5S running iOS8, as updated, has not had any problem, so I was surprised to read that you had an issue with that.

After two days of WiFi becoming erratic again and having to repeatedly reset router and phone with only short term results, I tried something new: I changed my router Wireless Security settings (WPA/WPA2 - Personal) as follows:

Version: from Automatic to WPA-PSK

Encryption: from Automatic to AES.

No trouble for 24 hours since. Fingers crossed.
