Yeah me too. I need to snap for presentation in meetings or any other occasions. The engineers are *****. What they thinking by preventing privacy violation. Other manufacturers don't think that way. I wish to switch back to iPhone 5.

I wouldn't blame Apple for it first, I blame those countries (Korea, Japan, India, etc) first for taking on wrong resolution. The perverts should be prevented by introducing higher level of punishments, not by making everyone sacrifice their right for taking silent selfies, taking silent screenshots, taking silent photo of our lovely sleeping babies and the list goes on ... there are hundreds other good use of the silent camera than those perving activities and these countries completely ignored that.

Also, there could be a better way of implementation like making the force-shutter sound only available in those countries so when people are in countries with no such requirement, they can still use the camera without the shutter sound at MAX !!

Few weeks ago I had to work on a presentation amendments on a train with my iPad Pro that I purchased oversea and I needed to take several screenshots & send. My iPad was making sound like a crazy paparazzi and gaining so much attention with its new loud surrounding sound and certainly it was not very comfortable experience.

I was aware of this for phones but I didn't expect that would be a case for iPads too. Seriously ... who is going to take a pervy photo with bloody iPad !!!!

What happens if your not in Japan but the phone originally was?

ANY device that originates in a country where it is illegal to silence the shutter sound will make that sound when you take a photo. You can't silence it. It's based on the country where the device was originally sold. Only a vanishingly small percentage of devices sold in one country are permanently taken to another country to be used. It would not be worth the hassle to come up with a system that made allowances for that.

Maybe this is way too late but hey! I got an answer and hope it helps.

Just open the app that you can lower the volume (not lower the ringer). Lower it till the mute symbol shows up. Then open the camera app and voila! You can use your camera without any shutter sound.

My phone did the same thing! I can't take pictures without the noise and I have tried many apps and none work. I bought my phone from bestbuy in america.

actually it works with game apps, should edit my post. please try this: download any game app and follow the steps i wrote.

Does that turn the shutter off on Other apps and screenshots or just that app?

I use headphones but doesn't kill the sound I got my iPhone 6 from apple in Bristol England but cant turn off shutter sound

That phone was originally sold in and for use in Japan. You can not mute the shutter sound. If you bought it directly from Apple, take it back to them and ask them why you got a Japanese phone.

Or you could just buy a phone that was actually intended for use you your country...
