Go to System Preferences>Network>How you are connected (wifi or ethernet)>Advanced>DNS. What DNS server(s) are listed?
Try use Google's servers, 8.8.8.8
There is no site at expatwoman.com, perhaps you meant expatwomen.com
Yes?
I get a 404 error on expatwoman.com, but if I connect via the IP address I can connect (79.170.40.224), that may be a problem at their end.
Try going to the IP address and tell me whether you can get to the site. Paste this address . 79.170.40.224 . into Safari's address bar.
expatwomen is not the website I want...it's definitely expatwoman.com
I also get this error message when I use a vpn to watch UK TV programmes. As soon as I get to the first commercial break in the programme, the message pops up and I can't watch anymore?? This happens on itv.com when using the itvplayer to watch programmes.
Hi, sorry I didn't see the entire message initially. Ok I've tried the IP address and nothing happens? I am very anxious to sort out this reoccuring problem as it's causing me a great deal of stress and really appreciate any help you can offer!!
Illyas and Csound1, I've just ran the adwaremedic and finger's crossed all seems to now be ok!!! I have tried expatwoman and the itv player and both websites are now downloading ok, no more 404 error messages so far.....
How did I get this adware in the first place and how can I avoid it again?
Thank you so much for your patience and help.
You downloaded it, that's how you got it. To avoid it in future the first line of defense is to read the terms of the download before agreeing to it. And never download from 3rd party sites (CNET etc). Vendor sites only.
Are all devices connected to a single wifi/ethernet router?
Try running this. Maybe yo have malware on the Mini.
The 404 error means that the site can't be found. The IP address given by the DNS server does not exist.
Which sites?
many sites, infact most sites now, but only on my mac mini, there's no problem when connecting via ipad???
'Many' sites is of no use to me
Which sites (one will do )
ok, expatwoman.com is one example. Works fine on ipads/iphones/windows laptop. Also if I press the back button, it then sometimes brings up the page?
no definitely expatwoman.com I have also just tried this on my ipad which loads up fine
Try my suggestion please.
Can you please read my post and try my suggestion, we have already covered the website!
