server error 404

When trying to connect to many websites on my mac mini, I'm getting the message 'server error 404', file or directory not found. How can I resolve this?? All updates done and restarts...

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Go to System Preferences>Network>How you are connected (wifi or ethernet)>Advanced>DNS. What DNS server(s) are listed?

Try use Google's servers, 8.8.8.8

Illyas and Csound1, I've just ran the adwaremedic and finger's crossed all seems to now be ok!!! I have tried expatwoman and the itv player and both websites are now downloading ok, no more 404 error messages so far.....

How did I get this adware in the first place and how can I avoid it again?
