Getting 3G toggle back in iOS 8 - Solved

All those missing the 3G toggle after updating to iOS 8 - here are some solution to try:

Mostly, everybody updated over the air(OTA) using Wi-Fi, something broke there & quite possibly also missed the included Carrier update.

As iOS 8 is a major jump, try Restoring through iTunes, it works.

You could also download the Firmware(.ipsw) file for your model & use click Shift/Option on Restore in iTunes.

Remember to backup your device in iTunes first.

Another Option is to go to an Authorized Apple Service Center & they will do it for you - tested & works.

You get your 3G toggle back in iOS 8 if your Carrier supports it.

Note : Applicable for users who had 3G toggle under Cellular in iOS 7.1.2 & lost it after updating to iOS 8

iPhone 5c, iOS 7.1.2, Windows 7

Hi guys.....

I am a great gadget lover, I have been using android and smart phones but now I am new to Apple.

I possessed an Iphone 5C 16 GB on 24th Oct.

I am here to clarify with a good news for the people of India regarding 2G/3G/Lte toggle, especially Airtel customers.

Yes, its working and even I am a Airtel user.

Its neither an operator's problem nor an Apple's.

I was also not getting Airtel 3G.

Firstly, I took a Reliance GSM sim which I converted it to nano sim and then plugged in my Iphone, it gave me an option of 2G and 3G and ofcourse LTE. I used choosing 3G for 5-10 mins and it was fine. Then there comes the question that why not Airtel working the same way?

Then I used my other android phone and plugged my airtel sim in that phone and I found that there was no 3G in it also. Then I contacted customer care, he noted the problem and transferred the call to his senior. He then further clarified that Airtel doesn't have its own 3G tower and they use Vodafone's.

Here the steps you need to do- (on that same another 3g featured android phone)

1. Plug your Airtel sim in that android or any other 3G featured phone and check if your geeting 3G coverage, if yes then sim is ok then the below steps will not be useful.

2. If no 3G coverage your getting in the phone then follow the below steps.

1. Go to mobile network settings

2. Select manually instead of automatic and wait for it to search all the networks.

3. Then you will find Vodafone 3G or Vodafone IND, select that.

4. It will be configured, so now turn on your mobile data and see the new H or 3G icon will show, that means 3G is working on Airtel now.

Now comes steps for Iphone-

1. Now you plugged that same Airtel sim back in your Iphone.

2. Go to network settings and similarly select manual network and then select Vodafone IND.

3. The phone will update itself taking 1-2 minute and it might also restart if required.

4. Thats it, your done, now you will see your phone will show Vodafone 3G instead of AIRTEL, thats it your done.

What I believed that senior executive had done was registered my AIRTEL SIM on Vodafone's 3G, might be but I am not sure

.....................

SERIOUSLY MAN, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR HEAD EXAMINED !

Hey Jagjit, do you realise who just confued a whole bunch of people..? Please refer to my previous post which clearly states the root of the problem being discussed on this thread.

No one here is looking for Airtel 3G or Vodafone 3G etc. They just want the 3G toggle back which enables the users to freely switch between 2G and 3G (and LTE too).

Please go through the discussions on this thread from the start to understand what'e being discussed here in case you are not clear. If you are new to iOS platform (as you claim) then you might not have an idea about these toggles being present in iOS7 and not in iOS 8.

Thanks,

Rajeev.

LOL.. Well, this worked for me:

1. Upgrade to iOS 8.1

2. The toggle should now be replaced with a choice between LTE, 3G and 2G, if not, then read on

3. Go to Setings > General > About and wait for a minute or two until you're greeted with a carrier update message

4. Install this update and restart the phone

5. You should have what I have described in step 2 now

6. If not, then call Apple care

Please don't follow any Witch Doctory with involving Android phones or anything else. You'll just be wasting your precious time.

Also, this may not work on Airtel because Airtel users had only LTE on/ off in iOS 7 as well. I tried this on an iPhone 5s on Vodafone India.

Yes, it is working for some users. It worked for me as well (iPhone 5, Airtel, iOS 8.1)

Especially iPhone 5S and above users are complaining that they are not able to see this 2G/3G/LTE menu even after upgrading to iOS 8.1. Can you shed some light on the carrier version you see for Vodafone after upgrading..? It will be useful for folks on Vodafone. Airtel is anyways hopeless.

Thanks,

Rajeev.

Here - read this explanation issued by Apple - Understanding LTE options on your iPhone

Secondly - iPhone models(excluding iPhone5) 5s/5c/6 & later models, that have an additional LTE Radio Frequency, that Airtel India uses & plans to roll out nationally, they will NOT get those toggles. That is why on Vodafone 17/18 on iOS 7.1/8.1 these toggles are available on 5s/5c.

Common Rajeev, I know what is all thread about.. I was looking after the concern of Sunny, it can be looked and solved and hepled out one by one. But you took the other way. Anyways thanks I will not be suggesting anything. thanks

Lastly you know what first you need to be clear yourself about 2G/3G/Lte toggle, that everything depends upon the operators. Like in reliance I get all three toggles, in airtel you need to manually update the network and all lot of stuff.

I might be new to Apple but am very old and well acquianted with Electronic goods, PC, mobile phones and now Apple.. thanks bro

Ok here is the solution. I Have tried and tested. 100% working. There is no issues with the ios. It is just the carrier update which is causing the problem. According to Airtel, there will be only 3G and 4G from 2015 onwards in India. So they have jump in front of time and updated their carrier setting with the new one. And it affected the battery life very badly. What i have done is port my number to Vodafone. And everything become normal. 2G/3G toggle is back, battery even lasts for atleast 2 days. This is the ultimate solution for this. 🙂
