Juniper VPN Network Connect silently quits after 10.9.5 update

Network Connect connects fine. Then after 2-3 minutes silently dies. Logs from console:

9/20/14 10:00:26.000 AM kernel[0]: tun: won't unload, tun interfaces did not all completely detach.

9/20/14 10:00:26.000 AM kernel[0]: Kext net.juniper.nke.nctun_tiger did not stop (return code 0x5).

9/20/14 10:00:26.000 AM kernel[0]: Kext net.juniper.nke.nctun_tiger can't unload - module stop returned 0xdc008017.

9/20/14 10:00:26.212 AM configd[18]: network changed: v4(en0!:10.0.1.39) DNS! Proxy+ SMB

I have rebooted. Uninstalled and re-installed the network connect app.

I upgraded Safari to 7.1 today and I'm now having the same issue. I can launch Network Connect from Firefox, but I'm having some sort of security issue where launching from Firefox blocks the connection to my corporate exchange server. I downloaded Chrome Canary, but Network Connect won't launch. Any troubleshooting tips would be very welcome!

Thats certainly an issue, but there is something wrong with the idea that a 3rd party can't keep up with security and other updates. These 3rd parties have access to pre-release software. Thats why its put out there. Companies like Juniper and Microsoft are lazy and wait until people are months into problems before they *maybe* release a fix. Frankly if they aren't going to properly support a platform then stop trying.

The silver lining is that IT departments are getting smart to this and kicking these lazy 3rd party software/hardware providers out the door and finding companies that actually do act like they aren't stuck in 1995.

Apple deploys patches and updates for a reason. You have to balance getting these updates applied with these 3rd party companies dragging their feet. Many also run things like VPN on their home computers. Being a slave to IT is something the business is no longer willing to put up with in the day of BYOD, mobility and cloud.

<off soapbox> 🙂

While I agree with your sentiment, I quibble with the details. Microsoft has been one of the best 3rd party Mac developers. Many of Microsoft's flagship products were released for the Mac before any DOS or Windows version. Microsoft's Mac software is far more stable across OS version updates than just about anything else. Otherwise, I agree completely. One of the worst offenders is security software. The people that are supposed to protect you from the latest zero-day attacks, and the people that make the software that IT requires you to install on your corporate Mac, can be years behind in updates. My corporate Mac is still running Mountain Lion and the top-of-the-line Symantec corporate endpoint solution just barely runs.

Well, maybe I don't agree completely. I just can't accept a statement like "IT departments are getting smart". Not an IT fan.

haha, ok maybe my IT comment was over the line. 😊

It felt like Microsoft had turned a corner with their new CEO. Office for iPad is decent (though years late) but as an enterprise you have to use the mess they call OneDrive for Business to get any real power out of it. No current Mac client, an iPad app can't handle shared documents/folders, and I hear when the Mac client does come out it too will not support shared content. (whats the point?) Then there is Office 2011. (cough cough) It seemed just ok at the time but in reality didn't even have feature parity with Office 2010 (or even 2008) and is now quite old. The next office for Mac, I hear through inside rumors, won't be out until later next year. (2+ years too late) Then there is Lync 2011 that I don't think has ever been stable. I like that Microsoft puts out software, but I ding them for doing it half way most of the time. I'm not aware of one good solid MS app for OS X right now. Maybe Skype but thats because they bought them and haven't ruined the service or found a way to tie it to Sharepoint... (yet).

At any rate, a bit off topic.. but yea, there are so many more that are as bad or worse I'll agree with that.

INSTALL GOOGLE Chrome CANARY

Check for other software updates

Then Fix Java like this

How to self check your Java situation! 🙂

1. Go to the apple icon on the icon on the top left of the screen.

2. Check “software update” and install all mac updates. This is important because apple does stop other programs working if their system isn’t up to date.

3. Go back to the apple icon on the top of screen and click “system preferences” and go to the Java Icon and click on it.

4. Check your java is enabled and then go to the Temporary Internet Files and click “settings” and click delete files. Check all three boxes and delete the files.

5. Restart

6. http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp go here and check your Java is working, if the plug in is disabled, click on it and enable it using this website.

DID ALL THIS AND WORKS FINE AGAIN NOW, I am sure Safari will come out with a fix soon but for now this is the answer, good old google.
