iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Same issue and my network is full Apple:

  • Airport Extreme latest generation (white tower)
  • iPad Mini rtina
  • iPad Air
  • iPhone 5S
  • Mac Mini
  • Mac

All the iDevices are picking up signal normally but have a big time issue in picking up the data stream. Looks like they are on the network but data is not flowing trough.

I tried all type of fixes, forget network, switch off devices, switch off Airport..... nothing... and it iall started since iOS 8 upgrade. Before the upgrade everything was working incredibly well with high WiFi speeds.

Looking forward to a fix.

Hi im having wifi issues but I think mine are slightly different. My wifi works but then it just stops, Safari then says that there is a problem with a server and I have to put it on to aeroplane mode and then back for it to 'jolt it'. It happens at home, work, etc so I know there is nothing wring with our wifi- and my husband's iPad and iPhone are fine on the wifi. It does this every 10mins or so and is very annoying!

I've got Iphone 5S.

The same issues. WiFi connects and doesn't work.

I did a downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7.1.2 using help from: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBrHyQ74j1A

Then I installed back iOS 8 again and it seems it works good for now.

The only bad thing is that I lost a lot of data on Iphone. It started as a "new Iphone".

Most of my data is kept on servers - contacts, calendar, pictures..

But all my text messages, saved games levels and all that staff was gone.

Maybe I did sth wrong.

But consider this before you do sth like this.

Having the same issues with my iPad Mini with Retina Display and my new iPhone 6..

I have a separate WiFi Router that I have setup to test and see what could be the issue.

I am still working on it however I reset my WiFi Router and set it back up again and it seems to be working perfectly.

I am now performing this on my ADSL WiFi Modem and see if it takes the same affect and move on from there..

This is an extreme way of working around it and this is likely an Apple issue hopefully will be fixed ASAP....

Same issues at home on Ipad Air. Seems to show wifi connection is fine. Hit resume lease, whatever the **** that means - didn't help. Made appointment for Genius Bar but comments indicate that will be a waste of time. Strangely, hitting the Mail link at bottom of screen updated my gmail, but using the gmail icon I created didn't work, same as all the other apps. Brought iPad to office for trip to GB, and it works fine with the wifi at the office. What the **** is going on? Will go to GB anyway and complain, if nothing else. Do not want to try reset of router at home because my wife works and home and depends on wifi, and if anything went wrong after reset there would be **** to pay. This is my first Apple product and - if not fixed immediately - will be my last.

u[date: iPhone users if your device is in a case take the phone out of the case, power down the device and let it sit for at least an hour or 2.

POwer back up and reconnect to wifi.

I had reset all my network / settings and the only time it would after that was when I'd power the device off and back on again.

Try removing any cases from iPads as well, powering them down and letting them sit and cool off - then reconnect without the case - and put them back together again - and see if that helps!

Apple support told me to erase my phone, I hung up.

I have an iPad 2 and I Pad Mini - Same issue for both. A page starts to load, gets about a quarter of the way there and stalls. Eventually, the message: "the server stopped responding" appears. My Mac Book works fine with wireless. Its just the ipads. This all started after loading iOS 8. It worked well for about a day and then got spottier and spottier. Woke up this morning and cannot load a thing. Did a network reset on both devices, restarted router, modem etc...all the usual troubleshooting procedures. No go. If its not the modem or router, what could it be? Thanks!
