Apple TV - iOS 8 and Radio Station Error

Hello,

I recently updated my two Apple TV's to iOS 8 when the new release came. After doing so, whenever I would play a radio station, any one, it would play for about 10 minutes and then an error would appear on the screen saying "An error occurred loading the content". This happened on both Apple TV's. On one of them, I downgraded the firmware to 6.2.1 and now the radio station plays continuously. I wanted to report this issue so it can hopefully be addressed soon.

Thank you.

I'm sure it is not a wireless issue. I just want to prove it to the senior analyst that has my case open. I have mentioned this thread and numerouse other people on the internet that have this issue and they totally disregard it as it doesn't exist. I told them that I use this radio function daily and the day I updated it started happening, but that doesn't seem to factor into thier trouble shooting skills.

I am in the states as well, and oddly enough it is my regular use of soma fm's channel Groove Salad @Nevereven that brought me bitterly here. Please add my name to the kick(in-the-groin)starter campaign to get apple to pay attention to this issue via this perpetually annoying way of communicating. Every time something goes awry with an apple product you have to gather enough apple peasants from the global apple village to create enough apple smoke to make enough of an apple SOS signal in one of these apple forums that King Johnny Appleseed deems it worthwhile to come down from his ivory apple tower to have a look.

So yes, please sir, read my rumblings and let my voice count as a very small pebble in the vast international beach of this problem.

As always, the question worth pondering is: how on earth did a major tech issue such as this one ever make it out of beta testing...?

My experience, for the record:

Attempted to use the Radio App on my ATV3 and it crashed 7 times in 80 minutes. There was a time (several iterations of firmware ago) when the app NEVER crashed. And then over the past year, every now and again, the sound would drop and the error would appear. Now we are stuck with a true setback.

And of course, it's a workaround to play the radio (or spotify or pandora or soundcloud or any of the other amazing music related apps that aren't on Apple TV) off your iphone/ipad/mac/whatever via airplay, but that's not the point.

The Radio App is broken, King Appleseed! Oh please won't you deem us worthy enough to qualify for a special place at the front of the IMMEDIATELY REQUIRED FIXES line...?

Sincerely,

your humble indentured servant No 37779845329

"An error occurred loading the content" I am seeing way too much of this lately. The Apple TV is connected by Ethernet cable (not Wi-Fi) to the router. So I know it's not a Wi-Fi issue.

This error seems directly the result of Apple's update. How on earth could they issue an update that breaks something so profoundly?!

Has Apple announced whether or not there is a fix planned?

This is truly not a US, UK or Canada thing. It's apparent that Version 7.0 update caused this. Apple TV users are very frustrated about this and have reported it to no avail to Apple Support. Could this have happened because Apple TV now bears an app to Beats Music which is owned by Apple and you must have a paid subscription to use it? Internet radio played unfettered until Beats Music appeared...could there be a connection? A monopoly stifles all attempted competition!

And I thought I was the only one until I found this thread.

After Several calls to Apple support this happened.

Yesterday Sept 24th.,I spoke with a senior person in the Apple TV group when I was escalated from the first contact. They were in Texas.

I did the resets etc etc with him all ok. Nothing wrong with all other services just the Radio cutting off after 10 minutes.

Eventually after citing the problems and telling them to look at this thread of complaints which they did and are now aware of the problem we are having.

He said he would try the apple TV in their lab.

Meanwhile he was passing the/our story onto to their Apple TV development group to hopefully rectify the problem.

They will contact me,at least I hope they do of any results/updates.

I will keep you posted.

At least they are aware of world wide users having a common problem with Radio streaming.

I am in Canada.

Firstly I forgot to mention the Apple person I was talking with was a helpfull as he could be.

Secondly thanks for the slogging remarks etc.

However I have had no email or updates to our queries from Apple TV group as of now.

I sincerely hope that they are working on the problem.

I tried again last night and updates were up to date with no new one so it was no surprise that the usual message and cut off came after 10 minutes of play.

I will have had the Apple TV for two weeks this coming Sunday.

Then I was prompted to do the 7.0 update then.

Keep calm and carry on with Apple TV,eh!
