Apple TV - iOS 8 and Radio Station Error

Hello,

I recently updated my two Apple TV's to iOS 8 when the new release came. After doing so, whenever I would play a radio station, any one, it would play for about 10 minutes and then an error would appear on the screen saying "An error occurred loading the content". This happened on both Apple TV's. On one of them, I downgraded the firmware to 6.2.1 and now the radio station plays continuously. I wanted to report this issue so it can hopefully be addressed soon.

Thank you.

I was very relieved to find this thread as, like others, I assumed that the problem was unique to me!

Before I found the thread I had called Apple support in the UK where I live and if they are aware of it being a latest software issue, they weren't letting on.

I explained to them that I had changed routers, switched to a hard wired ethernet connection (assuming that it was a wireless problem) and radio still cut out after 10 minutes with an error message. Support agreed that I had done everything they would have asked me to do.

With that, they sent me a packing box and asked me to return the Apple TV box, telling me that they would replace it ( I had 6 weeks left on my warranty).
During this period, I discovered this thread, but I chose not to tell Apple that I suspected that the software update was at fault as I wanted to see how they would handle it and what they would send me.

Today, a brand new Apple TV box arrived. Of course the first thing I checked was the software version.

6.0!

Maybe I'm being paranoid but I suspect this means that they know that shipping me a box with the latest software release would present the same problem so they sent me a box with the last version. Maybe not, maybe it's just old stock.

I have switched off automatic updates.

Early days, but I was able to run radio for about 25 minutes with no issue before I had to leave the house, so I'm pretty sure that it'll be fine now given the previous software release.

Happy to have radio functioning again - it's what I use my Apple TV for 99% of the time.

Thanks to all for the invaluable information on this thread. I'll keep monitoring it to find out when it's again safe to upgrade the software.

I've had the same problem since the last Apple TV software update. Cuts out after 12 minutes: "An error occurred loading content. Try again later."

I figured this was such an obvious problem Apple would issue an update within a few days; so I stopped using Apple TV radio and stuck to my SirusXM app on my iPhone using Airplay. But there are a few stations on Apple TV radio I really like, so I tried again today. The problem remains a full month after the update! Shame on you Apple. This is the kind of incompetence I associate with a lot of other companies, but not Apple -- until now.

This thread has been going for exactly a month; and people from all over the world are reporting the problem, all to no avail.

Shame. Real shame.

Further to my recent comment (above, page 5), it''s now been 3 days since I received a replacement AppleTv with version 6 pre-loaded, and I've had NO incidents of lost connections. So, the original problem was almost certainly due to the version 7 update. However, every now and again, Apple still displays a message suggesting I update my software. NO WAY! I just ignore it and select "Update later" instead.. I only wish there was a way I could prevent this reminder popping up..

Luckily, Apple replaced my unit because it was still under warranty, but it is doubtful that they'll do the same for every unit that's not still under warranty. I've sent Apple a link to this thread to highlight the problem, but I'm pretty sure they're well aware of it by now, but they conveniently want to ignore this issue. I suggest that the best way Apple can resolve this is by releasing a new software update which restores version 6 again. .

So I know this isn't a fix but at least I can listen to internet radio. I saw a post on this thread or another about ITunes putting out an update version 12 and adding the internet radio. Downloaded the update for iTunes, they did a complete makeover for iTunes with this release. However sure enough there was my internet radio. So by using the airplay at least I can once again listen to internet radio through the apple tv. Again, I look at this as a temp fix and hope they get their act together and fix the real problem.

I don't want to celebrate too fase, but today Apple TV 7.01 was released. Release notes are as good as always (not), so there's only a mention of two fixed security issues. BUT: I've been listening to the internet radio for over 30 minutes now, without issues!

Just so you know. Hope everyone else shares the same experiences and that it will continue to operate like this :-)

No sausage and no mash either!

Last Friday I called my contact in Texas,a senior advisor for Apple Care.

He said that there was nothing in the way of progress to report. I wonder why I was not surprised.

Like a complainant in Switzerland aptly said Apple has been very "rude" in the response to this world wide problem.

Perhaps we should ALL en masse,do as the UK Person did get a replacement device for what is a faulty update.

He was lucky to have the previous version shipped to him. He was best pleased,I'm sure.

I warrant that, had one of the sports channels had failed Apple would be right on it with a fix sausages and mash and all!!!

Come on Apple engineers "Get a grip of your Knickers" and sort it out.

🙂Alles in Ordnung!🙂

Did update which took a good 30minutes. seems to have fixed✅ the problem,at long last.

Have been listening to favourite 😎 German Schlager music station non-stop for over one hour.

Not German but like the beat and 😍Helene Fischer!

Best wishes to you all and happy listening.

Will Apple explain what they have done ⚠ ?

Oh how nice of Apple to FINALLY think of us! Well over a month later and it seems to be fixed (been streaming Groove Salad on Radio App for over an hour after the 7.0.1 update). Yet still: what a joke! We are supposed to now be thankful that the powers that be at Apple have finally addressed this incredibly irritating error many weeks later...? Forget it.

WE DON'T TRUST YOU ANYMORE, APPLE!

After this major "update" snafu and the ongoing issues with every single iphone update over the past year+, I will no longer allow any Apple updates to occur automatically. You are on notice, Apple. You have become Windows, and we can no longer trust your updates until they have been vetted by the hapless masses. From now on, none of my Apple products (apple tv, iphone, ipad, etc) will update automatically. I will allow the lemmings who do choose that automatic option to be my own personal beta testing division, since Apple has clearly given up on using their own.

Pathetic to think that it was updates rendering my Windows PCs useless that brought me to Apple in the first place.
