How to turn off app badges for Twitter on iOS 8?

Ever since I've updated my phone I have been getting an app badage for Twitter and the switch to turn it off is gone.

I didn't read anything like that. Can you link it?

Um, try reading THIS thread, from the beginning, every page.

it happens on a brand new iPhone with iOS 8.1 installed right after downloading Twitter app from the App Store for the first time (as a first app)

No iPhones have yet been sold with 8.1 installed - you had to update and possibly use a prior backup.

1. Make sure you updated twitter app - there were several updates in the last 3 weeks

2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

3. Restore iOS using iTunes, without restoring a backup.

4. If you still have this problem, no need to take it to Apple for evaluation.

Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

Or will it backup my bad settings

The backup may contain the problem

What did you mean by the "fresh install" you previously mentioned

I dont want to reset everything because I put so much work into customizing everything. Especially Notification Center.

Sounds like all that work didn't do you much good if you're getting badges you don't want...

Note that if this problem is due to the prior jailbreak, which doesn't fixed by restoring, it won't matter what you do.

"Fresh install" because when you jailbreak on iOS 7 and upgraded to iOS 8, you have to setup as a new phone. I can try a Reset All Settings. If that doesn't work I could restore through iTunes. And if THAT still doesn't fix it I'll just restore my backup. Thanks

Just asked a couple coworkers to look at their phones which were NEVER jailbroken. Their Badge App icon setting is gone as well. So it's a bug for sure. Twitter or iOS, not sure. 😕

Yeah, even your response to me just now was aggressive. Were they all out of blueberry bagels today? Smile once.

My phone is basically straight out of the box and doing this. I never restore a new phone from a backup for these very reasons. I also went up to 8.1 as a new phone as well to see if it would fix it. It did not. This is something I had not seen prior to iOS 8. I didn't realize a bug had to affect every single user, oh great level 6 message board wizard.

You have almost 17k imaginary internet points, so clearly you're very important, and I'm sorry. Also, how do you know so many millions of people don't have this issue? You're just assuming they don't. Calm down a little. I read through the whole thread and your "solutions" (if you can call resetting your phone a solution) did not work for me. And it's also not working for other people. So take a deep breath, admit you have no idea what the answer is, and go outside and get a dose of vitamin D.

modular747 has been nothing but abrupt rude and unhelpful to this thread. His only move is to delete your backups and restore your phone to factory settings. Basically just start from scratch. I don't have any special circumstances but my issue went away on its own with an update a few weeks ago. I didn't delete the application, I just waited it out. I was here out of morbid curiosity, but it is just a little red number.

You have almost 17k imaginary internet points,

"Imaginary internet points" I guess the thousands of forum members who awarded me those help points must have been hallucinating and delusional. I see you've been racking them up!

lso, how do you know so many millions of people don't have this issue? You're just assuming they don't.

If there were, this thread would be hundreds of pages long, with hundreds posting about how nothing helps

Maybe if you actually read the thread you would have a clue what I actually said and who was helped. Never said to delete a backup.

but my issue went away on its own

Now that was extraordinarily insightful and helpful!

How do you know this is due to an iOS bug, rather than an twitter app bug or a problem in your phone?

I'm getting the sense you're on a Tinder dry spell. Don't give up, big guy. There's something out there for you.

Good luck with getting to Level 7. I hear it unlocks a Healing Spell.

If you need me, send a tweet, I'll apparently still be getting the badge app icon, which is my own fault, per you. If I do find the actual cure I'll come back and let everyone know. Miss you already.

Ok, please don't troll this topic.

I have made a video about the bug:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_rpnaFUQTU

This is a timelapse, edited in iMovie to be more clear. The device is an iPad 2 with iOS 8.1. You can see, that I do the following:

1. back up the device, because I need my data back AFTER the video

2. reset the device to factory state

3. don't log in, set up as a new device

4. open App Store, search for Twitter and download it (with my account)

5. open Twitter, log in

6. go to Settings, the option is here (for now)

7. go to Twitter

8. go back to Settings: the option is gone!

9. get a reply on Twitter: the icon badge can be seen

10. go back to Settings again: the option is gone, you cannot turn it off anymore.
