I stayed up all night figuring this out and it finally worked. However, the apple support, nor my WiFi provider knew what to do. They are no help, and I agree with most of these posts, these products are too expensive to get such poor customer assistance. I hope my resolution helps... so here goes!
All you have to do is change the name of your network and the the pass code. I did this simply by just adding a number to the end of the current network name and the same number to the end of the pass code so it would be easily remembered. This will change nothing else. Unfortunately, everyone else will have to sign on again, but your devices will immediately pick up the new network name and it will work!
The hard part is that this has to be done through your IP address ( this information can be found under your network settings right on your computer under details), so you go to the internet and type in your IPV 4 router address just like you would type in a url, and it will take you to your server website. There you should have access to your WiFi settings to change this. However, it may ask you for a user name and a passcode to get access to your setting, and worst case scenario is you have to call your WiFi provider to help you out with this part, but whatever you do do not reset everything as this is what your provider will suggest..... That would be a nightmare. Just change the name of the network and the pass code, and it will work! I really hope this helps!
Remove the wifi password from your router and leave it open. Then try connecting your phone to the router. Lets us know what happens.
Doesn't seem to work either unfortunately.
The router is 7 years old, could that be a problem potentially?
Could be. Try connecting it to any other router like your friends', restaurant routers etc.and see if it connects. Also if you know anybody else with an iPhone 6, ask them to connect it to your router and see if it connects.
Good tips, I'll try these things are report back. 🙂

Yes, it could definitely be a problem. WiFi standards have changed significantly in 7 years. You can see if the router manufacturer has a firmware update. It would be listed on their website.
Thanks, I just checked and it's all up to date.
In my household we also have 2 x iPhone 5s' with iOS8, an iPad 2 running iOS8, an Apple TV, a 2011 MacBook Pro running Yosemite and 2014 MacBook Air running Yosemite.
All hook up to the same router no problem.
Strange.
Then it's probably the phone. Other, less likely, possibilities:
The key test is whether it works on other WiFi networks. If it does, and it is only your network with a problem, then it's most likely the router. While you say it works with other devices, apparently none of them are iPhone 6's, which have a different radio chip than other models.
Thanks Mr Finch.
When you say a different radio chip how might that affect the phone's ability to get onto a WiFi network.
After all, the phone sees the network and appears to have full signal, but it can't get past the password.
Thanks again.
It implements the latest standards. Several other posts from people with a similar problem say they fixed it by replacing the router.
Thank you.
I must say, I'm not too thrilled about replacing my router when the half dozen Apple devices we own work fine with the one I have.
If the phone implements the "latest standards" is there any notifcation of this from Apple? None that I've seen.
In any case, I shall test the phone on other routers and get a friend with an iPhone 6 to come around and see if she can access mine.
Thanks again.
Adding to this... the router I'm using at home is a 02 Wireless Box II.
It's one of the most common routers in the UK as 02 was one of the biggest broadband providers in the UK before being taken over by Sky two years ago.
I Had the problem with my iPhone 4s not recognizing wifi password everytime saying incorrect, I banged my head here and there and tried once again time tested solution which holds good if your iPhone doesn't wifi network at all " SWITCH OFF YOUR IPHONE AND KEEP IT IN FREEZEER FOR 10 MUNUTES, TAKE IT OUT AND SWICH ON, AN END TO YOUR ALL WIFI RELATED PROBLEMS" I am typing this just after doing the same thing as my iPhone 4s was not recognising password from many days I did all possible combinations e.g. Switching Off/on phone/router, changing password in router and resetting network settings but nothing helped. So I thought I will try my old time testef solution when my iPhone was not detecting wifi at all. I read this solution in one of the apple discussion forums only. So you can try at your own risk even when Apple support doesn't support.
I was hoping for a slightly longer-lasting solution, but thanks! 😁
You must be kidding

By the way there is no risk about keeping your iPhone in freezer for about ten minutes as freezer is pretty dry place and if you still afraid you can keep your phone in zip lock poly pouch. Iphone do work in subzero temperatures and there is no harm in keeping switched off phone in freezer provided its not spilled over with water. For me this solution has worked so far excellently saving time and effort. So I thought I must share with others.
