gmail exchange ios 8 issue

Got a brand new iphone 5S. Entered my Apple ID and all my settings and apps installed and everything was great.

Downloaded / installed iOS 8 and everything was fine.

The next day, my Gmail Exchange has stopped working. It IS working fine on my ipad which i also updated to iOS 8.

i have tried every possible troubleshooting measure I could find.

I have rebooted. I have wiped and restarted the device while connected to iTunes.

I have checked google settings. I have checked Gmail settings. Ipad continues to work but iphone doesn't.

While it's not a huge issue to use the Gmail app, it's just an annoyance not to be able to have all mail in one app now.

Any other suggestions?

labgeek70,

I used your above incoming and outgoing servers, but i'm still getting the "Cannot Get Mail -- The user name or password for "imap.gmail.com" is incorrect." message when I try to set up the account. I've confirmed both are correct, but I get this message no matter if I'm trying to set up a Google/Gmail account, an Other account or an Exchange account. Same error every time. Any ideas?

Even though Google stopped supporting it for new devices, it will continue to work if you restore from a backup on new device. I have done it multiple times with 5 or 6 different phones. If you have to set it up as a new account then your screwed. But if you created the account before their limitation and backed the config up, you'll continue to be able to use it. The issue seems to be something else. I have the exact same problem. Works on my iPad not on the iPhone 6. I don't have a limit of exchange clients with my corporate email and it is working just fine, it seems to be just my google APPS accounts on exchange.

Hi labgeek70

That all sounds great as a replacement for Exchange but with OTher you loose Calendar and Reminders sync options.

In this case any idea how to configure to add the missing gmail account calendar on iphone6 ?

Please forgive me. I was so excited I put google. It should be gmail

incoming: IMAP.gmail.com

outgoing: SMTP.gmail.com

Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendar>Add New Account>Gmail. If you only want to enable calendars, you can do that. Because I use the Gmail app, i only have contacts and calendars selected.

There is also the CalDAV method to access your calendars. By using this method, you won't have push, but you will able to keep the colors you have set for each calendar. (This might just me being picky, but I like to have consistent calendar colors between devices. 🙂)

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add CalDAV Account

  • Server: google.com
  • Username: Enter the email address of the associated Google account.
  • Password: Enter the password that is associated with the Google account from above.
  • Description: Enter a description of the account.

Select the blue Nextbutton from the top of the page. (If any of the required fields are missing, such as username or password, then the Next button will be grayed out.)

Next comes the toggle switch page for both Calendars and Reminders, then select Save to finish the process.

If you have multiple calendars associated with the account, use Google's SyncSelect (www.google.com/calendar/syncselect) to pick which ones you want to see on your devices.

The colors appear just fine with the standard Google/Gmail set up.

This is not true. This is the Third Iphone I have had in a year and I can tell you each time I had to completely delete the account from my new phone and completely add the account again with the 2-Step-verifacation.

  1. Open Gmail from a browser and only sign into the account you're trying to add. Be sure to be signed out of all your other accounts
  2. Go to this link: https://accounts.google.com/b/0/displayunlockcaptcha and click Continue.
  3. Add your account to your phone with a new application specific password.

If that isn't working, you may also need to enable Access for less secure apps. That option is found on your Security page of your Google account, under "Access for less secure apps."

Once again we are faced with completely removing the account from a restored iPhone. This is the Third iPhone I have had in a year and I can tell you each time I had to completely delete the account from my new phone and completely add the account again with the 2-Step-verifacation.
