Scanner Epson Perfection 1660 stopped working with OS X 10.9.5

My scanner Epson Perfection 1660 stopped working, after upgrading to OS X 10.9.5. Download und upgrading to the new Epson printer and scanner software did not resolve the problem. It is connected properly and it is shown in the USB tree. Replug the USB-cable initializes the scanner, but not much more then the scan-light. Software opens, but it is impossible to start a scan.

I checked the scanner with Snow Leopard, which ist installed on a second partition. The scanner still works perfect and fast with Snow Leopard. Took a look at system monitor, Epson is already running as a 64 Bit process.

Replug and reinstall software did not help. Epson refers to to Apple software download.

I recently had to discard a Canon CanoScan 8400F, which also worked before Mavericks (but always slow and buggy). The Epson Perfection 1660 worked perfect, fast and without issues until yesterday, when upgrading to OS X 10.9.5. Now it stopped, any idea?

Hi Michael, thank You for the hint.

Checked your link and installed, but with no effect, the scanner still does not work. Then i loaded and installed the US-American "Epson Scanner ICA Driver.pkg" (Aug. 18, 2014) with also no effort.

The lastest german file C_SFS3_Euro_OSX_27zb_41 is outdated (2006) and system refuses to load this PPC software. Screenshot:

Of course App Store offers an Epson update. Screenshot:

USB-cable still needs to be plugged out and in, for the scanner to be recognized by the OS X Mavericks system.

No way, so far? It seems they kick off elder, but working hardware step by step. Which probably calls itself "economy". But what do i know.

Looks like a good recommandation. I have too many apps in use that rely on image capture for example OCR, so VueScan is standalone and no adaquate substitute or solution.

Epson Perfection 1660 still does not function, since updated to OS X Version 10.9.5. Image capture lists and selects the scanner, but does not initialize a scan. The scan window remains gray. I don´t know is it a bug or Apple´s future strategy for external hardware. Booting SnowLeopard makes the scanner work flawless on the same machine.

Next SANE was installed, but nothing changed.

There isn't any new Scanner Driver update, as yet, from Epson for your scanner, however there is a plugin that you can install that works with OS X Image Capture application.

Download and install this and see if your Epson Scanner works with OS X Image Capture with this installed plugin.
